Trying to get pregnant and bipolar

Hi I am new to this room I mostly hangout in the migraines room but my question is I have been on klonopin and trazadone for a while and recently I started cutting my klonopin to .5 mg instead of taking the full 1. Mg so I don't know how long to take the point 5 mg till I can totally come off it and I don't know about the trazadone I welcome anybody's help I see my psych doctor on Wednesday so I asked him before about getting pregnant and he wasn't really much help maybe this time will be diffrent because I will have my husband with me who knows anyway any help would be appreciated thank you

I'm almost certain it is 6 mos. I was previously on klonopin for a neurological disorder and that is what my doc told me. Medicines are given classification that help explain how much of a reproductive danger it is. Any ob/gyn would be able to give you guidance on how long you need to wait. If it helps though, I waited 1 year to try for children (I have had 2 since). My cousin who is bi-polar, went off of her medications for 6 mos before trying for children. She also has two children now. Good luck!

I've read that Klonopin may cause harm to an unborn baby, and it may cause breathing or feeding problems in a newborn. However, I have also read that Klonopin in low doses during pregnancy is safe.
So, I would suggest you ask your doctor about this again as they would be the best person to advice you. I hope they will provide you with some answers this time. If not, maybe you might want to try a different doctor and get another opinion.
