Hi everyone.

I have Bipolar 1 and PTSD. I was diagnosed in Sept 2013 and in March 2014 my Doctors started me on Lithium and Seroqual. I am currently on 600mg Seroqual and 625mg Lithium. In September 2014, we are going on a 4 week Holiday, back to South Africa - home country. My Pysch Doc and I have decided that I can not function on 600mg of Seroqual as it is a strong sedative, so now I am on 450mg and 10 days later will be going to 300mg, then 150mg and ultimately 0.

Has anyone been on it and then weaned off from it? What would the ultimate side effects be?

I just posted about this on another thread to a new member. Lol

I have never been on this med so I'm sorry but I can't be of much help. However, I know that everyone reacts differently to meds. Some people may experience side effects and withdrawal symptoms while other may not.

below are some Possible Symptoms of Seroquel Withdrawal that I've read about:

  • Insomnia.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Return of delusions, hallucinations, or other psychotic symptoms.
  • Return of manic or bipolar symptoms.


I think the best way to reduce the dosage gradually instead of completely stopping use of the med. This way, it lessens any withdrawal symptoms that you may experience.

I hope you wouldn't experience any of the side effects. Let us know how it is working out for you.

Today, I had a huge fight with my husband. Later on I realised that I over-reacted and was over-emotional over nothing. Then I realised that we had a similar argument with the same results, 6 months ago, when I was not on any medication!

I am now on 450mg Seroqual (was on 600mg a week ago). Can my mood be due to the lower dosage?

I am sorry to hear about the fight Ferncor. One of the withdrawal symptoms is the return of manic or bipolar symptoms.
If you think this is causing it, maybe you can reduce it in 50mg or 100mg each week and see if it makes a difference. This way, you may not experiences the withdrawal effects so much. You make also want to talk to your doc about it so they can make the best recommendation.
