Hi all, I'm looking for advice for my brother, please forgive me if I use incorrect terminology. My sil has been having what I would describe as a manic episode for over a week now. Her mom is bipolar and my sisters husband is to so we have some experience. She is paranoid, thinks there are cameras in the light fittings and in her phone. She is hearing messages on the radio. She sleeps for no more than 2 hours if that. A couple of nights ago she went missing for over 24 hours which was really scary. She does not recognise that there is anything wrong with her which I know if not unusual but they need help and my brother doesn't know what to do, no one seems to care. They are staying with my parents who are elderly and it's too much for them. Can anyone give me any advice for them, we are in the UK.

sounds like professional care is required. i would speak to psychiatric services at your nearest hospital for support. they can take things from there. many healing thoughts i send. if he is a danger to himself or the community then do not hesitate to call the police.

Welcome to the forum!

Did you SIL ever visit a psychiatrist to get an evaluation and diagnosis? If not, please encourage your brother to get help for her. Take her a to a psychiatrist and they will be able to provide help for her.

Thank you for your replies. This is her first episode so it's quite a shock andshe hasn't seen anyone because she will not go voluntarily and it would appear no one is interested unless there is danger involved, to herself or others. It's incredibly frustrating and sad to see them go through this. So we are guessing bipolar based on symptoms and family history but obviously we could be wrong.

Hi Kellis42 - and thanks for sharing about your sil. I’m so sorry that she’s going through this. It's pretty obvious that you want to help your loved ones. I don’t blame you for being scared when she went missing! Situations like this are difficult, yet it’s encouraging to remember that God completely understands. Have you or your brother considered talking with a counselor? I hope she’ll get through this soon. Prayers for you and your entire family!
