You say:
"I'm doing all i can, but my mania is getting out of control. .. If I commit myself to a hospital can I sign myself out? Also would that look bad on me to my Dr's since I'm pregnant?"
Since writing this post, I went to the net and found out (as I've noted in more detail in my next post) that you can file a "Three day letter," asking out and give the reason why.
The ward has 3 work days to reply, and can decide what they think is best. So, the possible answer is, they get to decide, ideally based on your welfare, what is best for you.
2. You asked, "Also would that look bad on me to my Dr's since I'm pregnant?"
I don't really understand the question, but I think it is, if your baby doctor would be upset if you went into a psychic ward and you're pregnant.
I don't know about
that, either, but if I feel if someone believed they needed to go into the psych ward, my opinion would be, I think they should go into the psych ward, and those psychiatrists should know about
what psych meds might be best for a pregnant woman.
You can give those doctors there the name of your baby doctor, and they can confer with that person.
--------------------
I'm sorry you're not doing well.
I'm glad you are considering going to a hospital.
I wanted to know the answer to the same question (can you check yourself out?) many years ago when I had been growing more and depressed for about
3-4 weeks, wasn't getting any help from a psychiatrist or from any medicine, because I didn't have a doctor.
I knew something was going to happen because I had depression/anxiety but didn't know what to do. I went to the admitting desk of a general hospital which had a psychiatric unit, but I didn't know what to do.
I had the same concern. Can I check myself out if I want to?
What happened to me because I didn't check myself in to a psych ward and get the treatment I needed? What happened was, my anger/depression grew to such proportions that within a week or two, I had a nervous breakdown.
It's not that you'll probably want out, because you're having problems as I was, and you want help, and they want to give you help. It's just that you want to know, if you can check yourself out.
And I believe they will give you "calm down" medicine as soon as you get in there, in my view. You won't be in the state that you're in right now, you'll be getting help very quickly, I would think.
You can tell one of the nurses what your state is, and they can probably try to get you something that will help you.
If you decide to go to a psy., you might not get an appt. for 2-3 weeks, and which psy. are you going to get?
(That's the mental dilemma I was in, trying to decide if I should check myself in. I was going in circles. I was also negative, and couldn't have made the right decision if I had to, plus being depressed and anxiety.)
The psychic ward in a general hospital, or a mental hospital, can get you treatment very fast. I wish I had chosen that many years ago.
I know it's hard for you to make a decision. Can you talk to someone about
this, your mate?
Please write back, but also be putting your time and energy into making this decision about
getting help. We'll still be here.
