Hi, Inspiredby3,
I've seen you over in the Lyme forum.
Your concerns about
your spouse sound entirely valid, and I'm so sorry that you are feeling unsupported and challenged in this way while navigating such an awful illness yourself and raising three kids. Everything you describe sounds like a manic episode to me, all of it. I'm so glad to hear that you have a person in the mental health field to support you while all of this is going on; maybe a therapist would be helpful in addition to the psychiatrist, depending on the approach? I'm sure that your spouse isn't very
open to suggestions right now, but he should be encouraged to talk to his doctors, and you can talk to them as well about
your concerns. Does he acknowledge his mother's and grandmother's diagnoses, and understand them? Does he agree with their treatment plans? What is the protocol for them if they have a manic episode? Many people have an agreement - made when they are not manic, with both family and medical professionals - about
what to do if they become manic. I don't know what the best way to ride out the mania is, but I hope that he will be receptive to having a plan in the future. NAMI might be a place to start: https://www.nami.org/Find-Support/Family-Members-and-Caregivers
Sorry I can't be of more help. Wishing you and your family all the healing and ease that you need!
Sara (Lyme, ME, POTS, HPA axis dysfunction)
