Beth:
Don't dismiss the paranoia of her thinking her therapist is out to sabotage her recovery. She could easily have some schizoid tendencies and all the reassurances in the world can't help her if she needs anti-psychotic meds. Sadly, that often goes with Bipolar, especially during periods of extreme mania.
A friend of mine has an acqaintance who's a paranoid schizophrenic and believes everyone is out to get her--every man who lays eyes on her can barely control his passion for her. She took to carrying mace at her apartment's common area and just about got evicted.
Not knowing her condition, I volunteered to help her move a few years ago--was that a memorable day!!! I made the mistake of petting a cat and saying 'hi' to her neighbor. I was informed the cat was evil and the neighbor was a witch!!!
My friend thinks if she just reasons with her, she'll 'see the light' and realize these delusions are just that. Doesn't work that way--until this lady gets on the right meds, all the talk therapy in the world isn't going to do a think.
Take care of yourself.
