Questions about Abilify (and lady dragonfly =))

 Lady Dragonfly you are right. I did stop taking Lexapro because I hated depending on a medication. I wanted to be strong and try it on my own because I felt so much like a guinea pig lol. In the beginning of getting diagnosed, my doctors would tell me that I will want to get off my meds eventually but I need to stay on them. I thought she was crazy! Who would want to stop medications that make them better?!

Now I see what they mean =)

So, I called my doc and she prescribed me with Abilify. I am starting it tomorrow morning. I have lots of questions on it. How long does it take to work? What are the common side effects? Have any of you guys taken it and how do you like it? If you do take it, how many mg's did you have to go up to before it started working well for you?

I have been on Abilify before.  I had really bad anxiety when I was on it.  The doctor recognized that "anxiety" was a listed side effect of Abilify, and thought I might be having it.  So, I was switched to a different medication.  You might not have this side effect though.  Medication works differently with different people.

Hey folks,

My doc is thinking of switching my long term use of Zyprexa to Abilify, I'm scared of course because I've had a stable "normal" (still trying to figure out what that means) life for over ten years now.

My official diagnosis is Bipolar I. I'm 5'9" 210 Lbs which is 40 heavier than any of my three brothers (thanks Eli Lilly!!)

What are all of your experiences with Abilify? I had bad experiences with Seraquil (pre sleep voices and halucinations) and with Geodon I had the most bizare side effects which I think were a low level manic spark.

I've been lucky to have the support network around me to keep me in balance and safe through the years. For those of you who are still trying to find the right mix of doctor, medicine, therapy or light at the end of the tunnel, you have my sincerest, warmest love and empathy.
