Do any of you have trouble falling asleep at night? Kahleb has trouble falling asleep and I was wondering if that is a symptom of bp.
Thanks,
Vicky

Vicky,
I've always had a hard time falling asleep, even as a young child. I remember being away till 1 or 2am in the dark wondering when I would fall asleep. Things got a little better as I got older, but when the circumstances in my life changed so did my sleeping pattern.
I don't think that sleep problems is just a bp thing, but a lot of people with bp do have sleep problems. You should definetly bring it up with the doc, because sleep is important especially to a growing child. I have taken a lot of things for sleep in the past, but am not currently taking anything. I find some nights worse than others, but I have been falling asleep without any meds. For once in about
3 years.

Lack of sleep can lead to depression.

I totally agree with MDdave, lack of sleep really affects the mood. It can lead to depression or mania, you gotta watch out for that.

Ditto. Lots of sleep problems with bipolar and mood disorders in general, so absolutely worth discussing with the doctor. When I was younger I would listen to the radio and talk myself to sleep-- a process which often took hours. And often woke up early, easily.

I did talk to his doc about
it and he said that the rispidel should help him sleep but it doesn't. I'll have to talk to him again about
it. Thanks.
