I said I would do this least year and lost my round tuit. Well, I am going to try again. It has been way, way too long since we've had a gathering of the sisterhood. So, here is what I am proposing. May 16, 17 and 18 at the Country Inn and Suites at the Mall of America. I have talked to the hotel and we can get a group rate of $109 + tax for rooms with 2 queen beds or $119 + for a king suite with a pull-out sofa bed. The hotel is across the street from the MOA and near the light rail station that will take you downtown Minneapolis. There is a complimentary shuttle from the MSP airport. This is the weekend between Mother's Day and Memorial Day, so I thought it might work. Minnesota weather is magnificent in May. Old timers and newbies -- everyone is welcome. Would you like to come and see my city? Lauri (dxed 04/11/96)

Dear Lauri...I would love to see your city! The only possible thing I could have in May is my daughter's college graduation, so I'll have to check dates with her, but I think it's a terrific plan.

I've been looking at past pictures and wondering about having a meet. I'll see MK this weekend and see if I can talk her into it. Will it be cold up there?

Oh how I would love to see everyone, but there is no way. I can't get around as well as I used to. Trying to walk even the shortest distance hurts not only when I am walking but later I pay for it, too. Going to see my mother for a few days wears me out for at least a week more and I do nothing but visit. I hope you can all get together and have a great time, tho. Hugs MK

Lauri, a wheelchair is not the answer. I have an electric cart here at home, a walker with a seat, and I never even go down my hallway without pushing a tray table to lean on. The longer this goes on the more it hurts. I am now wearing four binders at a time and it still does not really help. I feel like I have a hundred pound kid hanging on my back at my waist pulling down as I drag them along. I move from chair to chair in my kitchen. I haven't been inside a mall since 2001. I have gone to an outlet mall twice with someone pushing me in a wheelchair, but when you get inside the stores there is not room to move around, so I usually sit parked near the door while everyone else shops. It is so much easier to just stay at home. I go to a concert where my grandson is playing, park in handicapped parking only to find when I get in the building I have to walk a long hallway to get to the auditorium. Carting the scooter around is a pain, the walker is a little easier, but then I still walk with it. When Jo-Ann and I drove to Louisville I was exhausted for over a week afterwards. No one in the medical profession seems to understand. My dr is hesitant to do an exam for fear of hurting me, and I keep telling her nothing hurts when I am touched, most of my abdomen is dead feeling. I need something to lift the hernia, but so far I have not found anything that does what I need and believe me I have looked on the internet and tried many different binders and abdominal lifts. I am looking at some full body things now that cost nearly $300 but I am not sure they will help, either. Do I want to spend that kind of money for naught? Sorry I am complaining so much, but it is so frustrating not to be able to do things I want so badly to do. But I keep telling myself that at least I am alive. Then there is Mother who tells me every night she has lived too long. And my daughter won't live long enough. Grrrr Hugs MK

I would LOVE to meet you ladies, but don't know if I could make it.  I want to go to Ohio soon to see my latest great niece, who was born last Oct.  And, August is my 30 year high school reunion in Ohio, also, that I would like to attend.  I've been to the Mall of America when my family had a reunion in Ely, Mn in 2005.  It's amazing!  There is a new airline called Skybus that flies between Columbus and Burbank (LA) that has very reasonable prices.  I'm looking into that, so I wouldn't be able to divert to Minneapolis.  I hope it gets planned, though, for others.

Hi Lauri..Although I would love to attend another gathering, I am not sure if I will be able to. I am starting chemo again on Feb 7th ( doing a "phase I" study ) and dont know how I will be feeling. So I will have to keep you posted...

I've been avoiding this post because I really want to be the one to say 'c'mon girls, let's do this' but I can't.  I need to get financial disaster straight first.  This year it's not possible to leave on a plane anywhere.  I can't even do The Cape this year.  So, unless it's on the northeast coast where I can commute, I can't do it.  Snells is coming to NY sometime soon, maybe she'll get post about that?  I'm sorry, Lauri.   I wanted it to happen. 

 

It needs to be closer for me to go this year.

 

I'm not happy about having to decline.
