increase in microcalcifications

hi everyone,

new to this site.. question is.. I got my mammo and they want me to have a breast mri because it is showing multiple microcalcifications with interval increase.. what is going on.. Radiology man scared me to death... He looked scared but said I am not saying it is cancer but we need to get a breast mri Now.

Calcifications can be just that, calcifications. But, they may be situated in a manner that is suspicious of pre-cancer. Be sure to get that mini done asap. The earlier b/c is discovered, the easier the treatment. If they are suspicious after the mini, they'll want to do a biopsy.

Until then, they won't know for sure. Let us know what and when you will be having your next tests.

Deep breaths. Microcalcifications MAY be an indicator that cancer is present, but not always. I am a not-always case in study. Mine were found four years after my lumpectomy under the incision scar. But, they were benign. It is important to follow up and find out what might be lurking underneath the calcifications. MRI should provide more answers. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
