I have SHINGLES on my reconstructed breast.  Go figure.  The good news is, because of the nerve damage, there is no pain. Finally, breast cancer has done me a favor! (aside from hooking me up with all my breast friends here, that is, which I count among the blessings in my life.)

Oy, it's always something! Shingles! I supposedly got it 2 days before my wedding, but it went away very quickly with cream and a shot of something in my arse...never hurt, so who knows what it was. But thank heavens for BC!

Ah yes der shingles! I have had them a couple of times, but like Lori the medicine helped and I never had the pain I hear is so awful. You know what you need is rest and more rest. My therapy for anything. I am very good at resting anymore. LOL. Hugs MK

I just read about a new vaccine for shingles, now being recommended for anyone over age 60. My grandmother had them for the full 4 weeks and had lingering nerve pain, God bless her. It was truly horrible to see. I wonder if we take the shot early if we'll be protected. Not a nice illness! :-}

Bev, sorry about the shingles. Never had them. Got the vaccine a couple of years ago when I went in to see my pcp for annual check up. Sure hope it works. I have a high school classmate that committed suicide in part because of the pain from shingles. I think she had a lot of other problems, too. So sad to lose someone that way. I didn't know there was a shingles vaccine.  Hmmm...can you get shingles more than once?  I just turned 50, so I don't think waiting til you're 60 would be soon enough!  I read somewhere that the younger you are the lighter the case is, and mine is a very light case.  The sores sure are taking a long time to heal, though.  Go back to the onc on Tues so she can look at them again.

I'm definitely asking if the vaccine will prevent future outbreaks.
