Well ladies....deja vu all over again.
Surgeon said if the pathologist saw papillary carcinoma, it is papillary carcinoma. THat's the good kind. :)
Whole thryoid has to come out, high probability of cancer, that way we won't have to go back into the neck for more surgery.
Recovery? 4-5 weeks! What? Oh, I can work at home, so maybe just a week or 2 until the narcotics wear off. Woo hoo!
How big will the scar be? "Ah, don't worry" he said, "don't think about that now." Wrong answr...but that's a surgeon for ya. I'd never accept that from my breast surgeon but I feel differently about this now.
THat's the beauty of breast cancer, another one of those hidden bonuses we never expect to encounter. I am nervous but so much less scared than with breast cancer. If this is papillary carcinoma as the path report said, there is no risk of mets, you take it out with surgery and then get another radio-active pill and to kill any remaining tissue.
I did read that a woman has an increased risk of breast cancer after taking the radioactive dose, so I am pretty excited to further increase my risk. Oh joy. SUrgeon said it is possible that the radiation from breast cancer tx contributed to this new one, they call it scatter radiation. But we'll never really know.
So ladies, for the first time in ages, we'll need to fuel up (I Know the cost of gas is high!) and I will need you all with me for another surgery on 6/24....
L&H,
Lori
