Christina Applegate on Jay Leno

Just wanted to let everyone know that Christina Applegate (the actress) is on Jay Leno this evening. She was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Jay Leno is a good show but past my bed time. Did you watch it? Tell us about it. I hope she is not another celebrity who minimizes the fact that she was diagnosed and is now cancer free. They always seem to put that spin on breast cancer and it makes it sound like it's no big deal, when we all know it is a big deal for most women. The celebrities give great publicity but they always look so beautiful and perfect. Who was it that flaunted her bald head? Wasn't it Melissa Eldridge? Hopefully just the awareness will help women be sure to have yearly checkups and mammograms. Love, MK

Yes, I did watch it and I do have to say that it was very tastefully done.  Christina is usually a very funny lady, however, last night she was very serious when talking about her diagnosis.  She comes from a family with a history of breast and ovarian cancer. She stressed about early detection and said that was the reason for her "coming out" with Jay.  She said that if it could just save 1 person's life, it would have been worth telling her story.  She  had a double mastectomy and is having reconstruction done.  She also mentioned the BRCA1 gene test and how important it is if you have a family history.

By the way, she has a weekly show that is on after Dancing With the Stars. It is Samantha Who, and is a comedy about a woman that has amnesia (sp?).  Wes and I both love it.  She is a very talented actress.

That is also past my bedtime.  It sounds like it was a good interview.  It should have a lot of impact considering she was known for her sexy image on Married With Children and now she had a double mast.
