Are there breast cancer risks I can't prevent?

I'm not sure of your question. I don't believe anyone has definitely decided what causes breast cancer. There are many studies that suggest different causes and different things that might cause the risk to be less. BUT everyone one of those suggestions can be torn apart by someone with breast cancer. For example breast feeding is supposedly a good deterrent and yet I know a number of women with breast cancer who not only nursed but nursed until the kids were two or over. A good diet is another deterrent, lots of fruit and vegetables and low fat. Well, again that can be cut down. If we knew what would prevent breast cancer there would be a lot fewer women being diagnosed today, yet the numbers are growing all the time. The best thing to do is to keep current with mammograms, doctor's exams and self exams. If you have a history in your family be sure to have a base mammogram early so that it can be used for comparison. Does that help any? Maybe some of the others will have some better ideas.

Any woman is at risk for breast cancer and we can't change that. We can't change genetics or past environmental insults. We can change diet, exercise, smoke, alcohol and ability to screen our selves and see doctors. Age is a key factor for some (not me, dx'd at 30). Race has different impact as well. Best thing is to read on what you can and can;t change, and take control of what you can.

An affidavit filed with Newfoundland Supreme Court last year showed that of 763 breast cancer patients who had tested negative in hormone receptor tests — excluding them from being considered from Tamoxifen, an antihormonal therapy — 317 had been given wrong results.

There is test, a biopsy you can do, if you see that its is very possible to be affected by cancer. You can have your breast removed and have breast augmentation at the same time. The following site can help.
