What's been up with me lately.

I have had very high blood sugar months. It has been in the 200s most of the last six months. I have been seeing doctors regularly. We have tried drugs that didn't work and finally I saw a diabetes specialist this week who put me on insulin. Yesterday was the first day I took it and at one point my test was 122!!!!! This morning's fasting was still a little high at 167 but it will take a few days I think and maybe longer to adjust. Anyhow this has had me feeling like I am my mother's age. But she even feels better at almost 96. LOL. I do read at least once a day I just have not felt much like posting. I miss all my old friends from here who have not been posting. Checking in to let you know that I miss you, too, and I'm so glad you're feeling better. I miss our Literati nights. What fun we had trying (and failing) to dethrone the Scrabble Queen! Poor Libby is still having trouble getting online, so we don't even IM any more -- just a phone call once in a while. She's doing well, and we'd love to hear from some of our old friends, too. I hope we see some familiar names posting. Glad they're working to regulate your blood sugar. We want you to feel well and enjoy watching those birds. Keep taking care of you, MK. You're loved!

Hey everyone! I check in every now and then but haven't felt like I had much to share, but have been keeping an eye on things. I am batteling heart problems now. Early stages of heart disease. I want to blame it on chemo, can I? LOL I thought I was doing so good and off all my meds, and then I had to get on BP meds, now Cholestrol meds. But life is good. We are building a house on Dale Hollow in TN. I have two wonderful Grandchildren and everyone is doing great. I miss our old friends too. How is Cathi doing? Joyce, Steve still loves giving tours and Becky please tell LIbby I said Hello.

Hi old friends! Seems we've all been busy lately. I guess that's good, right?

I've recently discovered Facebook and even found some old breast friends there too, life is grand. It's a wonderful time waster but really has connected me with my old college roommate (lost contact in about '89) and people from elementary school. Ol' Louie D. threatened in first grade one day to look under all the girls' dresses at lunch time, and I was wearing a dress that day. I did not wear one again to school for years...and well, old Louie moved in 3rd grade and lo and behold, he is on FB and I was able to tell him the story. Pretty funny to an old sentimental gal like me.

We're in the busy time at work, reports due yesterday and presentations through the month which means more work at home and travel, yuck. It will be nice to reach April...we've got 2 Bruce shows in Texas planned, and then a quickie to Atlanta for a show and on to Toronto. Can't wait!

And about 3 weeks ago, I got increased 36 mcg of my thyroid meds and oh, what a difference!

Nice to see you posting MK and Sara and Becky,...I check in almost every day but sometimes just have nothing to say.

My friend finished her chemo and is on just Herceptin, has her implant exchange surgery next week and is ready to get on with her life.

Hi, all. MK, so sorry about the diabetes thing. Getting the insulin thing right is so hard at first, but once it gets in control, I've heard it gets easier. Becky! Oh, I miss you posting around here! Always so nice to see your "smiling" posts. And miss news from brother George. How is he doing? Sara...heart disease? OMG. Go ahead and blame it on chemo. I've been trying to convince all my other doctors that I had chemo too long ago to have had drugs that caused neuropathy, having been convinced for a long time that I have carpal tunnel. My family doctor, my neurosurgeon, and my orthopedic docs all said, "Chemo." I begged to differ. So I finally brought it up to my onc, who said "no way was it chemo." She ordered an EMG, and sure enough, I have severe carpal tunnel in my left hand ( and I'm left handed), and mild carpal tunnel in the right. So, it's not always a good thing to blame chemo! LOL

Have to have a brag moment. My oldest dd, who is finishing up her master's at U of Louisville in Sociology, has just been accepted to U of Washington's PhD program w/ funding for her degree. U of L has never had a student accepted there, and she had one prof tell her it was a waste of her time to apply there. She's also got interviews coming up w/ Rutgers and U of Colorado, and is still waiting to hear from a couple of other really good schools Lori, one of them is (U of Mich), which at least means she hasn't been rejected yet. So Mama's preening her feathers here.

Anyway, so good to see some old buds visiting. I miss you guys!

MK, hope the blood sugar levels out soon.

oh Lord woman, what is going on with this blood sugar and you?????

I hope that things are under control now. I know how very hard it is to stabilize.

You were the first person to take my hand when I posted that I had a suspicious mammogram. That was 8 years, one lumpectomy, two cancers and a bilateral mastectomy ago...

I will never forget what you did for me and how you got me through so much and all the laughter we shared.

I'm still here- still around...
just holler and I'll come running.

Helllloooooo MK - one of your oldest breast feriends reporting in! I've been doing this for 12 years now and it has been 10 since my transplant -- Can you believe it??? I think fondly back to our meeting in Dallas.

My oldest is expecting grandbaby #2 this fall, my son is now 16 and Shelby will be 15 in June! My grandbaby turned 7 on Friday. Life is good -- I retired from teaching last fall and am still trying to find my place in retirement. Overall, my health is good since I can nap whenever I want

I still take Herceptin bi-weekly, Avastin monthly, and Tykerb monthly. Isn't it amazing that we can now progress to tricking tumors rather than trying to kill them, along with us. I think of the warriors who fought with us and for us. Our beloved JulieJar, took part in the clinical trials of

VEG-F which has become the miracle of Avastin we use today
