Catching up again

 I had my annual appointment yesterday. We spent a lot of time talking about my husband's pain in his back.  The MRI, bone scan and Xray shows something in his sacrum and rib, so he is going to see an orthopedic oncologist.  The blood test he had ruled out multiple myeloma, but they are still looking for something in the cancer range.  We should be hearing today about his appointment.

Then when she was examining my only breast she said she felt lumps.  I told her we had felt lumps there before and I had had a special mammo and sono and they found nothing.  Well, she said she was ordering a diagnostic mammo again, so I go next week for that.  Meanwhile today I see the DDS because I broke a corner off a tooth around a filling.  Old age is for the birds.

The other night Chris called, my younger daughter, and said she had seen her gyno and that once again they took scrapings because the PAP test she had last fall showed something.  However, her D&C and other tests in December were negative. 

However, Carolyn continues to do well.  Thank God! 

It is so crazy it is almost amusing that so much is going on.  Oh well, we will have some more info in a few weeks.  I am not worrying until I know what to worry about.

We have had several wild days around here. Thursday morning our GP dr called and said an oncologist wanted Chuck admitted to the hospital for tests. He had a bone marrow biopsy, umpteen Xrays, a head to toe MRI and he put him on morphine for the pain, Prednisone to help with inflammation. Saturday when the oncologist he was seeing was not on call a colleague of his gave Chuck the results of the bone marrow test and said "No cancer!" He discharged him. Well that is great news and it was nice that he could come home, BUT no one addressed the pain issue. So he really suffered Sat night, all day yesterday and I haven't seen him yet this morning. Soon as the doctor's office opens we have to get some answers and some pain medication and I guess steroids. The rib problem is a break that is not healed properly, he managed to have hiccups for two days which really exacerbated the problem. The back issues are still very painful. He looks like an old man trying to get around. Well, he is an old man. LOL!

Meanwhile I still have the mammo to look forward to on Wednesday. Such a great life when you get old.

Hi Lauri, it is good to hear from you. I wondered if you were traveling since we hadn't heard in a while. And what a great trip you took! Melanie is 6 now? I remember how much you were anticipating her birth.

Well things got crazier since I posted above. Even though the family dr said the test showed no myeloma, the oncologist she talked to put him in the hospital for more tests. He had another head to pelvis MRI, sixteen Xrays and a bone marrow test. The bone marrow again said no cancer, but altho he was discharged after those tests, the onc wants to do a CT guided biopsy next of his ribs. He is still in terrible pain even taking morphine tablets. We are waiting for the test to be done.

I have my mammo today. Chrissy's latest scrapings, etc. still show no cancer for her. Carolyn is doing well!!!! Crazy life we lead when we get older. Doctors and tests continuously!

Well, the good results of the bone marrow test were wonderful to hear, but the oncologist is still looking. He is scheduled for the CT guided biopsy and another bone scan next Thursday and Friday. I don't believe I have ever seen anyone in as much pain walking around, if you want to call it walking--he shuffles because he can't raise his feet to walk. The onc said he could do the morphine every eight hours instead of twleve, so I hope that helps some. I hate to see him hurting so and not be able to do anything to help.

Sorry your daughter is hurting, too, Candy. Seeing someone so young hurt would be even worse. I hope & pray you find the root of her problems soon.

My mammo and sono turned out fine. Two years ago we went through the same drill and nothing was found then, either. I evidently have some fatty lumps in there. That's fine I will take them gladly.

Joyce, you are right, April 18th meant very little. I can't believe she is doing this to her health again. She is coughing, too. I give up on her and refuse to worry about her health again. Chuck has spent the better part of three months without doing anything farming. He spends most of his time in bed because that is the place he hurts less, but getting up and down kills him. He made himself a pull to help, but even with that he has trouble getting up. I feel for him and wish I could do something to help. I sure hope they find something soon and can treat it. He has really aged in these months. Hugs MK
