Had my mammo done a couple of weeks ago. Called me back for more views. Went in and they took 4 new views. Radiologist said I had an area that was questionable....Referred to it as a Category 3.  Told me  that it was "likely benign" and they want to follow up in 6 months. Has anyone else here been told the same thing? Why do I feel uneasy able playing the "waiting" game?  Is it just with my history of Breast Cancer that has me so scared?  I am a 24 year survivor and still get uneasy when I go for that yearly mammo.

I knew that I could come here and get the opinions of your girls...you have always been there.

Huh? Likely benign is not in our vocabulary around here. What does YOUR doctor say? I would like to know what a category three is? Sorry I didn't answer this sooner, well I guess you only posted last night. Get on the phone and start calling, please. Hugs MK

Debbie, I would want it checked out now. It is just not worth waiting on. The sooner it is biopsied, the sooner you can relax! PLEASE ask for a biopsy!

Debbie with your history, I still would not want to wait. "Probably" is not acceptable to me.

I like a 3 better than a 4, but "probably" is not sufficient. Anyone with a hx of BC should not be made to wait....if it were me, I'd push for a f/u sooner.

I think I would be telling my doctor that "probably benign" is not an acceptable answer. Actually, I had a lump in my remaining breast that did not show on my mammogram (my first two cancers didn't, either). I went straight to my surgeon, he felt the lump, said it was "probably nothing," and then added, "but I think you've heard that before, so we should go ahead and biopsy..." We did the biopsy and it was benign. But that little scar is so worth my peace of mind! It is my favorite scar!

Take care, and as MK would say, try not to worry til you know you have something to worry about, but that doesn't mean you should not be proactive about this!

Gail, I see a B under strengh of recommendation when all others have an A. That in itself would tell me how sure the docs are. Get a biopsy! Hugs MK

Sorry to hear of the latest mammo reading. I too think I'd request a biopsy or further testing anyway.

I have to agree w/ all of the ladies. GET THE BIOPSY DONE ASAP. I bet that if it was a family member of your medical staff they wouldn't wait for 6 months.
