confused  First, let me say there is no tumor and that, my sweet friends, is a "very good thing."

However, the ortho. doesn't know what it is.  He says there's definitely something there, but he doesn't know what.  His recommendation is, now everyone please sit down, surgery to see what's going on.  Once he said surgery I shut down completely.  How can you do surgery if you have no idea what you're looking for??? 

So I asked him to send me a copy of the MRI report and I'm going to go for a second opinion.  Yikes, I can't imagine having surgery under those circumstances!!  I know they do it, but it's NOT happening to me.  One thing that bothered me was that when he called he was reading from the radiologist report.  When I asked if he could see "it" on the films he said he hadn't looked at them.  Then I was really kind of put-off by him, so the second opinion sounds like the right way to go.

So the news is good and somewhat murky at the same time.  I'll figure this out and you all as usual will help me.  L&H's, Luci  PS-I have hard copies of the MRI films; they gave them to me at the hospital.  So when the report comes I'll be ready with the original x-rays and that report, plus the MRI films and its report as well.

Way to go Luci, as usual you are on top of it!! Definitely agree that a second opinion is in order! No one wants to have surgery to find out what it is, especially on your leg.............. sounds like muscle area and not a good place to be cutting to find out what is there. Hugs MK

Oh, Luci,

Good for you! I'm glad there's no tumor, but shouldn't they be able to tell what it is without surgery? I'm praying for you, girl.

Well, I think your good news outweighs the bad! I am SOOOO relieved that it is not a tumor! Pfshewww!

But what is it? I agree, a 2nd opinion is most definitely in order. Dang, those pork chop bones travel to the strangest places!

OK Miss Luci, I will fly the ladies there but I am willing to bet as soon as we find out you are fine. You are going to have a house full. Did you think I could fly the PCE into Vegas run over the the hospital and then tell a bunch of pink boa bearing ladies to quietly get back on the plane. Seriously doubt if I could get them through Mc Carren with out a problem. LOL We will be there. There and anywhere you need us. L&H Lemon wings.

Oh, Luci, I am so glad it is not a tumor! Whatever "it" is, I know you will be able to deal with it and the consequences. As always, you sound like you are on top of everything. So glad you got good news. Hugs, Lauri

What a relief! I'll take that no tumor, but I wouldn't want surgery until things were more definate,especially when he said that he hadn't even looked at the complete picture as yet. That would really bother me too. You are on top of it for sure. Love and prayers, Di

Luci, good news there's no tumor.  I am in awe of how you keep on top of everything.  Think I'll bring you with me my next go around.  As for now, we'll be with you for your second opinion. Hugs, Libby

Luci, I am very glad it is not a tumor!!!
But what was that doc thinking? How can he discuss surgery without looking at the films??? That is insane!
You are too cool! Glad you let him know who is driving this bus! GO LUCI!
Good Lord- he's booking surgery and the "thing" could be a smudge from the rad tech's PB&J!
I do not want to jinx anything though so all I will say is Trust but Verify! AKA Second Opinion!!!

Luci, I can only repeat what has already been said. So happy there is no tumor--but exploratory surgery? That would bother me. A second opinion is definitely in order--and maybe even a third. My best thoughts are with you. Hugs, Rozanne

Yippee!!! And the second opinion is the only way to go. As always, your take-charge of your own health mode is inspiring and educational. Recommending surgery without even seeing the pictures is astounding to me. Here's a thought - have you noticed that your pants or skirts have gotten looser?? Maybe it's just a little hip fat moving down! LOL - a good thing. tongue

Three cheers for no tumor, and we'll just take a breath and get that 2nd opinion before looking at an operating room, thank you. What a gal!

Glad to hear no tumor, but you need a 2nd and maybe even 3rd opinion before you let them start cutting to "look around".  I have had it done before, but not on the leg.  Abdomen is a little different.  We will all be there with you, but if you need us physically in Vegas - that could probably be arranged. LOL  Any excuse to go to Vegas.  In fact DH and I are hoping to get down there sometime this winter for a few days to visit some ND friends of ours who have relocated down there.

Luci, I am also relieved that a tumor was not detected on the MRI. However, remember that no imaging modality is definitively diagnostic; it just gives the doctor information. Some types of imaging techniques are better for soft tissue while others are better for hard tissues. The new digital imaging techniques are highly specialized and need to be read accurately by the radiologists.  Whether your doctor has or has not seen the films himself may not mean that he is a bad doctor; he most likely cannot "read" the MRI and is relying on the skills of the radiologist to interpret the study.  He may not be jumping into surgery blindly, but rather wants to see with his eyes what is going on and biopsy anything that appears unusual.  You know the drill: a biopsy is the ONLY way to know what something really is! Even though medicine has come such a long way technologically, there is still a lot of "gut feelings" that guide our physicians to take one coarse or another, and that just comes from experience. A second opinion is certainly in order, especially since you are not comfortable with your original doctor's recommendation. I just want to share with you some perspective from the "other" side. I really do hope this turns out to be just another pork chop bone! L&H, Frayda

Luci, tell your second opinion onc to look for something kind of t-shaped....like a pork chop bone, right????

So glad to hear the initial dx is good, but sad you had to get that surgery word thrown at you. Keep us posted on what you find out from your second opinion.
