MK, just wondering how things are going in Texas?

It is crazy in Texas. Chuck feels much better with some of the drugs he is taking and he insists on walking to build his muscles up for farming soon. He wanted me to take him to auctions last week. One was 100 miles away so I told him I was not driving two hours for him to tell me he wanted to go back home because he hurt. He can lie down in the back seat of the van so he could probably travel ok. But there is no way he can go to an auction. Then he insisted on the van keys to go get the mail another day, while he was out he drove down the road to see our other field and by the time he got back he was shaking really bad. He is traveling back and forth from the kitchen to his room, a good 85 feet many times a day. Yes he uses a walker or a cart to push or the wheelchair once in awhile but by the time he gets back to bed he is hurting terribly. The Rx has helped clear his mind but he still believes he had a several men in his room at various times. I'm sure he hid some things we can't find like his set of the car keys so they wouldn't get them. He swears he didn't but that the men were there. I can't convince him otherwise. It is a struggle to take care of him because he feels better and thinks he will be all better soon. Deniall, denial, denial.............. My knee is back to hurting so I am calling dr today for another Cortisone shot. Hope he will give me one. Love you, MK

A good knee brace really helps me when my knee is bad. The older I get, the more braces and splints and binders I add to my collection, and when I need them, they do help. I, too, am glad Chuck seems to be doing better, but it is so hard when they can't judge how much they can do. My MIL used to ask to go here and there, then as soon as we got there thought we should go home because she just wasn't up to it, so back home we went. Then she started forgetting to ask to go, and I'd find her out sitting in the car, waiting for me, convinced that she had asked me to take her someplace. When she'd take her medications, it helped a lot, but as soon as she would start doing better, she would insist that she was fine and refused to take them. It was a viscious cycle. I just had to remember to find the humor in it, but some days, it was awfully hard!

Hope you can get that cortisone shot. I don't know how long they like to wait between shots anymore. I've had the last shot they'll give me in my shoulder, and thank goodness it seems to have finally done the trick.

Chuck continues to push himself so he will get stronger and get better. He now has a hot plate, a microwave and a fridge in his dorm room and he is cooking his breakfast so he can eat at all hours of the night if he wants. Well, this morning he put the water on to boil for his oatmeal and laid back on the bed and went to sleep. The water boiled away. I was concerned about fire, now I know I was right. What to do to keep him happy yet safe?

The Cortisone shot did not do anything this time. It has been a week now and my leg still is killing me most of the time. I did get a Homedics Hot/cold knee brace and it does make it feel better when the gel is hot or cold. The rest of the time it is just there. I guess I will call the drs office today and see which ortho man he wants me to see or if he has any preference. I need to be able to get around better.

Chris is here busy as a bee doing things for me like cleaning the oven and the freezer. Yesterday she washed down the front door and scraped the peeling paint off the pillers on the front stoop. It is too small to call a real porch but big enough to have four pillers for decoration and the paint was peeling, probably from the drought and the wood drying out. She wants to paint today but rain is in the forecast. It looks great out now, sun is shining, so maybe she can paint before the rain. She is trying to involve her dad enough to make him feel helpful yet not let him overdo.

I am trying to rest all I can while she is here. I feel more at ease with Chris here than with Amy. Amy is great help when it is something she wants to do, but doing for Chuck is not her favorite thing. So I try to do all that.
