Thought of our sweet Mel today...

I ran into Kroger to get some juice today and walked past a section of pink stuff...Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade, hats, reusable bags, timers, you name it. But they had a pack of Energizer batteries in pink....reminded me of her heroic battle and how she called herself the Energizer Bunny. Glad to see they have continued to add products to those that donate money to the Cure.

Every store I go in is showing pink...supermarket too is featuring pink cakes, cookies, cupcakes & candy.

Batteries, that's a new one, gotta see that.

Don't know Mel, but saying Hi.

Jane, you are too sweet. Pink takes on a whole new meaning now...

Mel was a special young woman who lost her battle several years ago. She was diagnosed when she was stage IV, it had already spread to her liver. She had a young son too. Melody responded very well to treatments and seemed to have several years of good quality time with her son, despite her prognosis. She always said she was like the Energizer Bunny, who just kept going and going. She was the first one I knew who had thyroid cancer after breast cancer....but her attitude was always positive and upbeat. She was an inspiration.

Seeing the pink Energizer batteries brought a smile to my face, as her memory lives on.

I have thought about Mel many times over the passt few years. She was a treasured friend to so many of us. I wonder about her little boy and how he is growing up. Her husband and his mother were so good to Jo-Ann and I when we visited. I think of so many of our dear friends who fought valiant battles and managed to live a few years longer because of their will to live. I've got an energizzer rabbit living here fighting a good fight. Hugs MK

Lori I had no idea Mel was gone, heartbreaking to hear that and that she was diagnosed in stage IV.

When I see pink I will think of you and what a good friend to have. What a lovely person you are.

Jane, thanks, you are kind. I feel like you've been part of our club for years!

Many of us go way back....there was a special group of us that posted on another forum back starting 1999 or 2000, and for a few years after. There were a lot of us that were diagnosed around the same time and had treatments together, and unfortunately we were together long enough to see our sisters lose their battles. And others have just moved on with their lives and just don't come 'round these parts amy more.

I attended my first gathering with this special group of ladies in 2000, when about 40 of us met in a dumpy hotel in St. Louis. I went to 2 other meetings in Myrtle Beach, but many gals also met in cities such as Louisville and Las Vegas and Cinci.

From time to time, we may talk about the old days or friends that have gone before us....please feel free to ask questions or chime in on anything....our door is always open.

Hi Lori! Your post made me smile as I remembered Mel. She was with us in Myrtle Beach and was so upbeat even though she was really sick! All this pink stuff reminds me of our PPE (pink pony express) and all our sisters that we have lost since that weekend we all met. Sending you a great big (((((HUG))))! Frayda

October is really our month to remember, isn't it?? Julie and Mel. Susan passed away 6 yrs ago this month too. October was also the month of our St. Louis Reunion (my first) at that "dumpy" motel as Lori so kindly described it.

I remember on the shuttle ride in from the airport in STL, Becky Phelps and I sat together. We'd never met, but started talking as soon as the shuttle left the airport. Becky was wearing her Halloween sweater and sharing her antibacterial hand sanitizer.

I wish I had pictures of the look we both exchanged when the shuttle arrived at the "Bates" hotel; it was priceless. BUT, we had a wonderful time that weekend inspite of the surroundings. It is a precious memory which helped me through so many difficult days dealing with this wretched disease.

So many gone, but so many of us still here living with a chronic disease and doing just fine. We are all of us, old and new BC survivors so very special. Keep being tough because that's what it takes to keep this "bad boy" in line.

Hi Tavish, I really hope I'm not intruding but I am going to be circling the Earth in my sailboat on a crusade against cancer. I will be flying 2 banners; one is a tribute to those we lost to cancer and the other is a salute to those we didn't. I have been organizing this since I was diagnosed with cancer while building my boat. Anyone who would like to add a person to either list is most welcome to do so, since I am new to this forum I'd need to make sure it's ok begore I post the web site or my email. If this is OK with the moderator(s) I will be happy to do so. Cancer has been kicking people around long enough and I am instigating a crusade to get up and do some kicking back. By the way, on this trip around the world I will be guiding a fleet of boats carrying survivors and it is going to be a world class event.
