I met Ann Jillian last evening! She performed at a benefit concert with our local symphany orchestra to raise money for our breast center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ! DH & I got to spend some time with her after the concert. (DH is chairman of the board of the hospital). Her successful battle against breast cancer is an inspiration to us all. She was warm and gracious and genuinely interested in my story.  She was incredibly talented as well! I only remember her in her sitcom, "It's A Living" and her TV Movie about her bc, but can she sing! Her story gives hope to us all, as she is a 20 year survivor! Happy Halloween everyone! L&H, Frayda

It is always great to meet someone in the public eye and get to know them a little bit and find a wonderful, warm human being underneath the persona. I knew she was a bc survivor but sure didn't know it was 20 years. Thanks for sharing, Hugs MK

I remember watching the Ann Jillian story on tv years ago, way before BC meant much to me, when I was pretty young. I must have known back then that it would touch my life some day, I just felt a strange attraction to the story and to the cause. She was one of the first to 'go public', that I recall.

I recently heard Brett Favre (Packer's QB) has BC, don't know the details. And People Magazine just did a story on BC in celebrities and their families. I am glad when those in the public eye are willing to share.

Sounds like a great evening! I had my stitches at JFK back in around 1973, so glad to see it is thriving!

I remember the Ann Jillian movie too.

Living in Green Bay, I have been watching Brett Favre's wife's story. She is 35 and just underwent a lumpectomy. She will not do chemo and radiation. It is amazing how closely his life and my husband and I's have become. His father died last year about 2 months after my father in law and now his wife is dealing with breast cancer, like me! It truly knows no bounds in choosing who will fight the battle.

It really helps me to see and hear stories like these. Hope and courage!

How neat that you got to meet Ann Jillian! I remember that she was diagnosed shortly after I was. So her story was very near and dear to my heart.

I actually will be celebrating my 20th anniv. in March and i am pretty sure hers is somewhere close to that time too.

Frayda, this is way KEWL! How exciting! I remember hearing that Ann had BC, also way before me. But I had no idea it had been 20 years. What a great story. And, I also heard about Farve's wife having lumpectomy. I know it must be hard to deal with cancer when you are in the spotlight, but the publicity may make a woman get a mammogram or do BSEs who would not have done so. Anyway, it sounds like it was a marvelous event. Hugs and love, Lauri

Hi Frayda! Good to see your post. It sounds like you had a really nice evening. I, too, remember the Ann Jillian story. I haven't heard anything about her in years, so it's nice to know that she is doing well. Hope all is well with you and your family too.
