Calcifications?

Good Morning Gail:

When I had discovered the lump in my breast and was sent for a mammogram I was told I had heavy calcifications in both breasts.  I was not dx'd with cancer because of the calcifications, but my dr. keeps a close eye on the normal breast because of the calcifications.  That is all I can tell you, but it seems to be a concern as a precursor to breast cancer.  Happy thanksgiving to you too.

Luci, I am being watched for that now. Dr. showed me the different shapes of calcifications. Seems they give you a boost mammo and they can see the very edges, and the shape of the cluster and know what is going on. I had just gotten to the once a year mammo and was so happy. Then the very first time I went a year they find this. Now I am back to every six months on the one side and a full mammo once a year. Hope all goes well for your friend. L&H Joyce

My daughter was told about the clustered calcifications in her mammo, but sbe also had a tumor of size. That was the first time I ever even heard the word calcifications and she explained it to me and showed me her films which she had at home to take to surgeon. They have come so far since I was dx eight years ago. But NOT FAR ENOUGH. We need a cure or at least some kind of a preventative treatment to defeat this darnable disease. Well, I had calcifications but no one here even told me about them. I just always got a letter saying I was OK and was told later that my new Gyn didn't even look at them. I don't know if that is true or not but suspect that it is. Years ago, my old doctor had 5 or 6 other doctors look at my baseline Mammogram when I was 40. I kind of suspect that it was the beginnings of it because that is EXACTlY where it occured at age 49. I'm glad that your friend's doctor is taking care of her. Happy Thanksgiving, Love, Di

In early March of this year I was diagnosed with DCIS in the left breast and Ductal Hyperplasia in the right breast.  Both conditions around the calcifications.  I had 2 sets of needle biopsies, 2 open biopsies and lumpectomies in both breasts.

I was told that I had hundreds of calcifications in both breasts.  That is where breast cancer usually starts.  My lumpectomies were performed in mid-April.  Then another needle biopsy was done & more DCIS and hyperplasia was discovered in the left breast.

I ended up having bi-lateral mastectomies in October.  I am now cancer free.
