I don't know if this is on anyone else's news but I thought it was pretty cool. There is a breast cancer survivor in Yakima, about 80 miles from my area, that was only 17 yrs old when dx. She is still a senior in high school and wrote to Dr Phil about helping her and her family cope. She had a mastectomy and I would assume will be having treatments (they didn't say, but at her age I would think so). The show with Dr Phil was taped today and the news will let us know when it is going to be shown. I definatly want to see this. I also want to write her a letter if I can find out how, maybe through the news team, and thank her. I want to tell her about this board and that we ALL thank her for helping to make it known that bc can hit young women too! I think it is just wonderful that she is doing this. It has to be hard at her age to have a mastectomy and go public with it. She is also making pink bracelets to raise money at school. If anyone here wants to post a message for her, I will print if off and put it in with my letter. I am sure it will be a day or so before I mail it if I get her address. Love you all! Gail

Hey Gail-- I will mail you her contact email. She has phylloides cystosarcoma and I don't think she will be having any other treatment but I am not sure. Don't count on an email answer from her though. Email me privately & we can yak.

I hope that you will post when that program will be telecast.  I would really love to see it.

Hi Gail,

I'm crazy over Dr. Phil, although I don't see all his shows. I'm glad that you're going to let us know when to expect it. I'm sure he will treat the subject with his usual sensitivity. I hope he gives a wake-up call to the medical community. He may also have some new statistics, treatments, etc. to share.

Don't think any of you posting thusfar were there for our very first meeting her in Cincinnati, but at the hotel, there was the nicest lady who waited on us at breakfast every morning. Our picture was in the local newspaper (and we had an article in USA Today!), and the lady recognized us at breaskfast our last morning there. She told us she wanted us to meet her daughter, who was also serving in the restaurant. She was about 16 or so. Her mom then told us that her daughter had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 11... yes, I typed that right. 11. And she just wanted us to know that she was pulling for all of us. She was just so proud of her daughter, and what a fighter she was! Definitely an inspiration to us comparatively old women! Everywhere we've been, seems we've met extraordinary people, doesn't it?

I hope this young girl is a fighter by nature as well.

I often wonder about people we have met along the way with our breast cancer group and how their lives have been. Many posted for a short while and then went back to their "normal" lives. How are they doing?

My girls have eventful days today. Chris has her meeting with the genetic doctor to get her results of the BRCA. Carolyn has an MRI and a bone scan scheduled today. She had a CT scan on Firday. The chemo she is on now is a short term chemo and the next time will be the last time she can have it. I guess the onc is trying to figure out what to do next to keep her going. She got some stronger pain meds last time which she needed. Please say a little prayer for them if you read this today and I will let you know their results when I know them.

Me?, I am out coping by fixing up my house. After years of letting Chuck's projects take a lot of the money, I am buying some new furniture, tables and lamps, a new stove!!!! and possibly new carpet for the living room and hall. I had to laugh when I got a letter from the Hospice Chaplain with a list of normal grieving and on it was shopping and buying things you wouldn't normally buy. I am really doing that.

I am so happy to hear you are doing well! I know shopping can certainly perk me up! lol
I will say a prayer for Chris and Carolyn. Please be sure to post what the findings are and what they decide to do.
I think of you often and miss seeing all my breast friends. Seems like it has been forever since we all got together. I guess we all get so busy in our lives, but that doesn't stop the love and caring we all have for each other.

I looked at your link and that is horrible. Nobody at any age should have to deal with it!

If you know someone that has cancer and needs insurance there is a site where you can find out more about coverage and they provide free insurance quotes. I hope this helps someone that is unfortunate enough to have developed cancer. What a horrible thing to have to go through!
