What do skin mets look like

Hi all, I am not overly-worried, but I have this small area under my left arm (breast cancer side) not even 1 cm square that is really red, for no reason.  It' been there a few weeks, and it's just dawning on me 'uh oh skin mets?'.  I am trying to find pictures of skin mets but I haven't found any yet, so I figured I'd ask here.  Are they very red?

I am scheduled to see my ob/gym on Wednesday as a followup to the oophorectomy, so I'll show it to him and see what he says, and then maybe I'll follow up with my onc, if needed.

I am cautious... nervously cautious, though.

Hi Stef. I think you can find photos on bcmets.com or .org...I can't remember which. I got rashes on both of my breasts and thought I had skin mets, so I went hunting. I think something else would have to be going on, along with the redness, such as a bump, rash, etc. I know how frightning this can be. We tend to have to pay attention to everything. Sending good thoughts and prayers for a good outcome. Keep us updated. Take care of you.

I think there are pictures on BCMets.org.  I have had several areas that I worried about skin mets (having original dx of Inflammatory BC).  Most of them we watched and they went away over time.  One I did have biopsied, but turned out to be some sort of dermatitis too.  I hope yours turns out to be nothing as well.

May I suggest shingles as a possibility. Shingles seems to affect all of us who have had their immume system compromised, I seem to get a patch of it every time I am anywhere near someone with Chicken pox or even a cold sore on their mouth. I agree you need to have a dr look at it, and I would think since you have an appointment tomorrow that doctor can take a look. If he has no concrete idea what it is be sure to check with the onc. Will keep you in my thoughts that it is a minor problem. Hugs MK

well I never made it to the ob/gyn for my followup to my surgery..... my 6-year old woke up with a headache and congestion, so i stayed home with him today, and had to cancel my appt. darn it!! I am convincing myself this area is a rub mark that, since i can't feel (i am all numb under my left arm), maybe my bra made. not sure. i do need to call my onc. i just hate to do that, since they already think i am a 'hysterical patient' ... wanting annual scans, etc. Well my ONC doesn't think that, but the physician's assistant does, and I can't stand her. uuggghh.

Have you considered calling your PCP before your onc? The PCP is really the one who should see you first, as there is no indication that this is cancer. It might seem strange to go to the onc with a rash, but not unusual to go to the PCP....it is probably some kind of dermatitis or something that can be treated by the PCP or a dermatologist.

Just a thought...
