Hope our Ohio, Ken. and WV friends are all right

I am seeing film footage of terrible flooding in Ohio and news that 100,000 or more are without electricity. I hope all our breast friends are all right. What a strange winter this has been. Snow in Las Vegas, flooding on the Ohio and other rivers. And, here in Minneapolis we have yet to have a 1 inch snowfall. Just 90 miles south of us, there is plenty of snow. And, there is snow in northern Minn. Parts of Iowa got 18 or more inches of snow last week. Then there was the horrific disaster Indonesia and other countries in the Indian Ocean basin. Ohio has been slammed. First there was snow (we got about 8", but parts of northern Ohio got as much as 36", just ask Cathi!!!)...then we had ice, which froze the surface of the snow hard enough to support the weight of our dog, 80 or so pounds. Parts of central Ohio had power outages as long as 6 days. Then rain, and the snow disappeared in about a day and a half. And then more rain. Then north of us more ice, and more rain.....and more to come, if the weather guys are right. I was very grateful that I had decided to hoard my vacation and take the whole last two weeks of 2004 off!

Personally, we're okay (no flooding, no power outages), but 59 (I think) out of 88 counties in Ohio are applying for federal disaster relief.

Yep, Ma Nature definitely hasn't been kind.

That's right, MK, hardly any snow at all. I think the TOTAL so far is about 2 inches, but we have not had an inch at one time yet. Very unusual for here. And, there is snow all around us. It is like there is a dome over the metro area. Yikes, Peg. It sounds awful in Ohio. Glad you are all right. But, six days without electricity this time of the year is serious. It gets really cold in the house in a hurry. Talked to DD is Noblesville, IN, last week and they were without power for 17 hours due to ice storm. She took Melanie to breakfast at Perkins, then shopping at Walmart. Later they were at the home of one of her Moms Club friends. Then it was shopping at Target after little one napped. Electricity finally came on about 5 p.m. I just hope things settle down pretty soon. MK, checking on those we have not heard from in a while, might be a good idea. Kind of worrisome. Hugs, Lauri

All I know is that I could have been living in Arizona.  On Wed before Christmas we had 15 inches of snow drop in less then 8 hours.  I think it was something like that. I know it was 15 inches and I know it started at 11:00 AM and quit snowing about 8 that night but then the freezing rain began.    Could not get out of our sub division for three days.  Which was nice. Santa was able to get here too.   Then this past week it rained and rained and rained.  Finally stopped on Friday.  But the new report is more rain for tomorrow.  The Ohio River is flooding and the Little Miami which is near us has flooded some homes but not too bad.  The Great Miami which is more south west of us let loose and flooded everything. 

I hate snow.  I have a mural of a desert scene in my front living room.  Lately I have just gone in that room and transmeditated my self back to Phoenix.  Of course they have had quite a bit of rain lately too. 

We only live a hop skip and a jump from Peg V so we experienced the same as her and her family.  Just a little south, east and west of us family was out of power for several days.  Christmas was very interesting.  We had people coming and staying and coming to shower and coming and hearing their lights were back on and went home to rest and check their houses.  It was a busy holiday, but a good one.  Now the rain is coming back this next week and that is not good news.  We have had repeated ice storms north of us that have completely closed small towns down, flooding that has closed roads for several days just 10 miles north of us in Delaware.  The weather has been so spring like here in Westerville that crocus are blooming.  Pine trees have started to form their little crosses and trees are starting to bud.  We have the entire population of worms on our driveway.  We still have weeds growing that we did not get pulled in the fall.  Mushrooms are growing in the back yard and they are so established we can't pull them up so the dog won't eat them.  It is all so confusing and a little scary.  Snow in Nevada and Ca. No snow where Lauri lives and of course the 150,000 lost to nature.  I have all of you in my prayers and sending lots of hugs to you too.  Love, Candy

Kentucky checking in! It's just yucky here, wet, gray and although we had about 10 inches of snow it's all gone now and we are watching the River creep out of it's banks. More heavy rain predicted for the rest of the week and then really cold. Right now I am glad we bought a boat! LOL Hope everyone is safe and warm.

Washington here...cold and a few inches of snow. Roads are bad in the morning, but otherwise not doing too bad! Staying inside a lot to keep warm.
