I just got a call from the diagnostic center where I will be having the ct scans on Thursday. I am allergic to the iodine dye they inject me with so I have to be on pre-meds for 24 hours before the test. They always call to update my meds and they said my test started at 9:30.
I mentioned that nuclear medicine would be injecting me with their radioactive stuff at 8:00, send me to them, then I would go back at 11:00 for their test. The nurse that had called me could not believe that they would schedule two tests for the same day especially since I am allergic to one of them. She kept me on hold while she checked with the radiation techs.
According to her, there will NOT be a bone scan that day or they won't be doing their scans that same day, but one of them has to change. She mentioned Friday morning but I told her that I have another appointment and I cannot cancel it. No option there.
You will probably think that I am nuts but, I started taking a daily vitamin pack for diabetics put out by Nature Made. Something in those vitamins, and I know that it is NOT calcium, is making my fingernails grow. All my life, I have had paper-thin nails which didn't bother me because they didn't interfer with playing the piano. Now these things are hard as a rock and my Fri appointment is for my second manicure in my whole life and I really enjoyed the first one and these things are too long again. Would anyone give up a manicure for a radioactive bone scan? I think not.
So, my tests will happen when they happen. I'm not going to let them upset me. I questioned their scheduling when they did it and I'll call the onc's nurse tomorrow and mention it to her. Ho-hum, I am getting bored by this whole scans thing. I think I'll just sit back and watch my fingernails grow.
Love, Jo-Ann
