Lump in breast for three years

I was just wondering about a lump I have had for a little over three years. It started deep in my left breast and now is larger and has moved up closer to the surface. I have no insurance so have avoided going to the doctor. Any advice?

There are a number of places you can get free mammograms or mammograms on a sliding scale fee plan. CBS news had the following info in October for Natl. BRCA awareness month:

Please get a mammogram and breast exam immediately!!!!

 

I had a lump that I thought was a cyst, since I have dense breasts and a history of cyst problems.  It started to get larger and I found a breast care program sponsered by the state.  Many states have similar programs for the uninsured.

 

Bottom line - DO IT NOW!  My lump was cancer and it was quite advanced.  I skipped one mammogram due to no insurance or it could have been found earlier.

 

 Luckily for me, I am still here to answer your question, but it has been very hard.  Thankfully I persued a program for the uninsured and got help.

What are the options for people who don't have insurance to get breast cancer treatment?

What happens if someone gets a free mammogram and it turns out to be cancer? Insurance companies will consider it to be a pre-existing condition. How will they be able to afford treatment? Please provide suggestions. Thanks.

Because of the federal act, there are many options to low/no insurance patients to treat this. The difficulty comes in when you have to dig through the morass of information or misinformation. Most places that provide low/no cost mammograms will also have information for low/no cost treatment.,

This act provides for federal medicaid dollars to be used, so please look into this as soon as possible.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment. I have my appointment made. Hopefully it is just a cyst?! Moves around a lot which is why I have never really thought much about it....then I found out some cancers can move around.....UGH!.......Dawn

I had my mammogram today and they also did an ultra sound because the mammogram showed something in my right breast that I didn't even know was there. They are going to give me the results on Friday. So that's the latest. I'll let you all know the results. Thank you for caring!......Dawn

They didn't call me on Friday and I guess that's a good thing. I was suppose to call them if they didn't call me.....I was too scared to call them....but I'm thinking it's probably a good thing? I'll call on Monday. Live in a tiny community they do things just a little different. ....that's the latest..........Dawn
