Gall of ignorant family physician

First, hello to old friends here and also to the new ones. I check the board several times a week to keep "abreast" of what everyone is doing.

I had to share with you the experience that I had today and hope that none of you will have to go thru this.

I was first diagnosed with bc in 2001. Between Stage II and III and 19 of 21 lymph nodes positive. Went thru all of the chemo and radiation and everything was good for a year. Then it came back...Stage IV, mets to the bone. Chemo every 6 weeks for the rest of my life. about 2 yrs ago I began taking Vicodin after being on nothing more than Tylenol 3. My family physician moved to Fl so I had to find a new one. I decided to use a dr. that I had known for years. Our children went to school together. I started going to him in Nov 2010. Today I went for an appt for my knee and also asked him if he could change the wording on my prescription for vicodin. He looked me straight in the eyes and told me that I didn't have cancer. That I was lying. I asked him what he was talking about and whose files had he been looking at? He informed me that he hadn't had time to get my records, (all he had to do was pull them up on the computer) and I could fill out another form to allow him to get them. He informed me that he didn't believe that I could look as well as I do and have Stage IV cancer. I was so angry. I started crying. Told him that I didn't know who he thought he was. That this is  NOT something that someone would make up. and perhaps he would like to tell me where my left boob went since I DIDN'T have cancer. As I left I told his staff that I didn't understand how they could treat patients this way.

I now am looking for another family physician. I don't know if I  am going to file a complaint against this idiot or just let it pass.

Lesson...make sure that you  have complete records and find a physician that isn't an idiot.

I am so sorry; I have had similar circumstance, but not at this level, but the horror...I do understand and I did file a complaint. I cannot believe that people behave this way and I just can't hug you enough through this note.
I went on Ratemds.com and put it there; on Angie's List and posted there and told everyone I could about this guy. It's been 15 years, but I still tell people my story. If it stops just 1 person from going to them, then I've won. BTW, I would have your oncologist send him a letter too!

A possibility for you..contact your former Dr. in FL and ask who they may recommend...
