breast lump for 13yrs

i have had a breast lump for 13yrs, was scared to go to the doctor to only find out it was breast cancer. Finally went to the doctor and had a mammo done. Doctor wanted more test done so he sent me for a compression view on my right breast where the lump is and an ultrasound on the left breast. Got call back from the doctor and he wanted to do a biopsy on both breast. Had the breast biopsies done 2wks ago. Doctor called me back and said the left breast was calcifications and the right one was LCIS (Lobular Carcinoma In Situ) and wants to remove it on Dec 2nd. Eeek thats next month. Doctor is also recommeding that I take Tamoxifen after the results come back from the surgery i will be having on Dec 2nd to remove the LCIS. Ok let me ask this is LCIS a nicer way of saying you have early stage cancer? And do you loose your hair while your taking Tamoxifen? Also will i have to had rad or chemo after the removal of this LCIS and before i start Tamoxifen? I am 37 and scared out of my mind on what is going to happen. Can someone please give me some advise. Thank you.

13 years! Carcinoma is cancer, I am afraid. Do have it removed and don't worry about the Tamoxifen. I take it; don't like it, but I am still here. I had radiation, which I hated, but I am still here. Just do exactly what they tell you to do, and it will hopefully turn out ok. Chemo is bad for the hair, but tamoxifen rarely causes that problem. I did not have chemo, but lots of people do, and they get through it. You just have to steele yourself to go through with the treatments, knowing that you will come through on the other side and hopefully, without the cancer. I am 72, and it is no different for us older women. We are all scared and facing a lot of unknown stuff. It has actually been much less bad than I expected, so just be brave!!

MMckay... I posted on another thread to you about most of your questions. However... I have to say that 13 years, and it is only LCIS? That is a miracle! Being afraid of cancer is one thing, but sticking your head in the sand is never a good way to deal with health issues! So glad you went to the doctor and got some answers!
