(No Subject)

Hi, my mom who is 80 just found out she has breast cancer,the spot is not even a cm. big. The doctor she is going to see can't see her until nov 29th. Is that to long to wait for an appointment?

I just read your post and what a great support you are to jmkjjc. Good solid support as always and I agree with you re the wait time.

I am sorry to hear you have something showing up on an MRI so I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as well as jmkjjc's Mother.

JM... just wanted to add that, typically, it takes a breast cancer lump 8-10 years to grow to a size where it can be seen on a mammogram... and a couple of years more to grow to a size where it is palpable. So 2 weeks is next to nothing, in the big picture. When we are first diagnosed, all we want is to get that thing out of our bodies, and 2 weeks can seem like an eternity. But it seems that the process is one of "hurry up and wait." Once she sees the surgeon, it could be weeks before she has follow-up surgery. Then there is a wait to get in to the radiologist or the oncologist. And another wait before the treatment begins. I had my mammogram on October 23, got in to a surgeon right away, then had to wait til Nov 11 to have a biopsy. Mastectomy wasn't until December 6, and the oncologist initially scheduled me for February. My hubby called them and threw a hissie-fit on the phone, so they got me in two weeks after surgery, and I had my first chemo on December 28. In retrospect, I wish I had put off chemo for a few more weeks, so that I could have had more healing time! But at the time, I was glad he had pushed.

Waiting is hard, but it can have its benefits. You have time to research your options and think about what YOU want.
