What to expect tomorrow

Hi, and yes you are in the right place!  In some cases they can tell if it is cancer from the ultrasound. In my case, at age 30, the mammogram did not detect my palpable lump, but the ultrasound was "highly suspicious of malignancy". They might be able to determine based on density, color, shape. Or, the ultrasound might be inconclusive. They can often tell if it is a cyst (fluid filled) based on an ultrasound.....but overall, the best way to tell without guessing is to have a biopsy. There is a good chance your surgeon might schedule one, and don't panic...it does not automatically mean anything bad. It just means they need to get it out and look at it.

I would say NO, they may get a good idea but the only fool proof way to tell if it is cancer is to do a biopsy. I was 43 when dx and you will find lots of ladies here much younger. I had no history of bc in my family and have never smoked. Sometimes...most of the time we can find no reason for this happening to us. I will keep you in my prayers for a B9 result. Please let us know how it turns out. You will find a lot of information here, lots of hugs when you need them and prayers whenever.

Where are you located, we do have a PCE that will be glad to gather all the ladies and go with you. If you haven't read far enough on the board, the PCE is the Pink Cloud Express and we all jump aboard and (spiritually) be with the person needing some support. Just wanted to say the lump came out of no where, had a physical about 7-9 months ago and the doc did the breast exam and felt nothing.  Made me promise to get a mamo since I was 41, and never had one.  The morning I felt the lump, I woke up and my breast was killing me.  It was in so much pain, that is why i did an exam.  The lump is at 9 O'clock on the right breast, some days all of a sudden it just screams in pain, other days it does not hurt at all, it is kind of big and feels long and skinny.

No one person can calm me the way nootie AKA Snuffles does. I love that dog, and to think when my DH said he wanted a dog I fought to not get one, then I saw her and fell in love.  She is a cross between a pug and a shar-pei, but she looks just like a pug, but her eyes do not cross and she has a more pronouced nose. 

Anyhow, I think that is what scares me the most the treatment, radiation, chemo all that stuff.  I dread it.  My primary doc, called and was the one that said, I'm sending you right to a surgeon, when I was having the u/s, the radiologist came in to read it and said, oh yeah that will need a biopsy.  Oh joy.  Well I have to wait less than 24 more hours to hear what the surgeon thinks.  She has the mamo film and the u/s film so she will know just what to say I guess.

Thanks for responding.   I will let everyone know what happens tomorrow.  Again this is a great site.

Thanks Deb.  I'm getting really scared.  The Surgeon is a lady so I hope she wil be fine.

21 more hours, then the wait for the surgery and the results.  God I need a valium.  Actually I'm ok and will be till tomorow. 

I'm not taking anyone, like I said before If I hear bad news I can run home it is less than 1/2 mile to my house and hug my dog, who is my savior.  then call mom and hubby.

Hi again Randi...
In my case, I did not know that the u/s indicated malignancy, and it was a good thing. There was no reason for me to know at that point. When I went to see the surgeon, she looked at the films and told me it was not a cyst, and that there was some concern about the "borders" of the tumor. We scheduled the surgery for the following week, having to wait for Thanksgiving to be out of the way. I got my news the day of surgery. Just be prepared that tomorrow might not bring any answers.

As for chemo and rads, if, big IF, you have to do it, you will get through it! I told the surgeon they should kill me rather than have me go through chemo...and well I had very little side effects and worked full time with minimal days off. Radition is a piece of cake and should not interfere with any activities. It is so doable! But 80% of tumors are benign, so odds are in your favor.....

Tavish is half Westie and half poodle, and my special baby. He is not so friendly to others, you risk losing a finger, but he is so good with me I cannot imagine not having him around. Love those dogs!

Hii Sunffles Mom, I am Pitypat and Missy's mom. My Heidi had to go to doggie heaven a few weeks ago. They are schnauzers and even tho I have kids and grandkids and even a great grandbaby, I love my dogs like children. There are a lot of us dog and cat lovers here and we can all understand the love of a pet helps so much. I hope things go well for you tomorrow. I had two benign lumps before being diagnosed at age 58. That was eight years ago. My daughter was diagnosed two years later when she was 39. So from no history we have some now. We have all been through different experiences here and we will help in any way we can. I went to school in Boston and my room mate was from Burlington. So I am familiar with your country even if it was nearly 50 years ago. LOL. Hugs of welcome, Mary K. known as MK, gma stands for grandma.

Oh Ladies your all so wondeful, I have tears in my eyes!  Thank you.  So today is the day I meet the surgeon, deep breath.  I'm worried but what will be will be and that is all you can say.  Funny thing I always wanted to be around hospitals and doctors and nurses, heck I should be a nurse, did it in the Navy and forever in nursing homes, but no I do sales and marketing for the number 1 telemedicine company.  Oh well enough of that. My husband is going with me today, not that I wanted him to, but he is and I guess that will be good in the long run.  I hope that they do the surgery next week so I can move on to the next step whatever that is.

The PCE, got to love that,  I will be on board when you all need me.

Hi Ladies,

Well I went to the surgeon yesterday, Love her.  The news  is not so good.  I have a large mass, that has bad borders or shades or whateve.  I am having surgery on Tuesday to remove it.  Then I have to wait 5-7 days for the pathology report.  So keep your fingers crossed. 

I saw the pce all around yesterday.  Thanks Ladies.

So tomorrow is the day.  Surgery is at 10am here in lowell, I hope to see the PCE, I'm sure I will.  I tell you what I will be glad when this mass is gone, can you say painful.  OUCH.
