Breast lump, but no pain???

Hello, there. I see no one has responded to your post. It is the weekend, so I suspect many of our more experienced members have not signed in. Maybe I can give you some information. First, breast cancer almost never "hurts", but that is not always the case. Second, most lumps are benign, so please rest easy until you investigate further. I urge you to make an appointment with your doctor right away. While you are very young, you do have a history in you family. Some other ladies will sign in soon with other words of comfort and advice, but they  will and I do urge you to call your doctor tomorrow and make an appointment. Tell your the office that  the lump has been there for a while. Then, go to the appointment, and let us know what is going on.

Actually my breasts are quite small and had been naturally somewhat lumpy and of uneven texture. Probably because I have so little fat. So for a long time I could not tell if this lump was just normal. But recently my breasts have smoothed out some, and this one lump is more defined. I've also lost a lot of weight recently, though I'm already thin, so now it is easier to feel this lump in my small breast. The lump is long but kind of flat. Not standing out.

Although I am young, I have already finished menopause, since having a hysterectomy for cancer 6 years ago. I also have fibromyalia.

I am trying to get an appointment at a local hospital. I am American but living in Taiwan; I'm not sure what the procedure for testing is here.

My friend told me that they will probably need to use a needle to take a sample, a biopsy. But she says that, if it is cancer, this test also increases the risk of spread, as the cancer cells can escape out into the body more easily. She said that cancer cells are basically contained inside the tumor, but if the outer wall is broken, then the cells spread more quickly. Does that make sense? Have you heard of that?

Are there any specific tests I should ask for or expect?

 about 3 years ago, I too felt this small lump on the right side of my right breast. I ignored it thinking I am only 35, I am too young for something of this kind.    As time went by, I really started to get worried when I started to feel a little pain in that area. I did some research and talked with some people, but was told "Cancer doesn't Hurt".  So again, I ignored it until the pain got worse. When I finally went to see a Dr. it had grown twice the size.

The doc sent me immediately to the Cancer center to be tested. My tumor was over 10cm big and at a Stage 3B. That was the scariest thing ever. And to think I just ignored it. I am proud to say, that I am now Cancer Free! It has been a very long hard road, but I managed to make it through everyday. My message is to never ignore the signs. If you catch it early, it is so much better and easier to overcome. It is very important to be checked and mind easing to know. Don't hesitate another minute, call your Doctor, make the important call, and free yourself of the worry and not knowing.  And if you find out that it is not so severe, you will still have the satisfaction of knowing that you  took a huge step of survival in this crazy crazy world. My mother is 59 and was on HRT for quite a while when she went through menopause.  She can feel a lump below her armpit region and had a mamogram at the Dr's.  The Dr informed her that since it wasnt painful that there is nothing to worry about and the nurse said the same thing.  I just wanted to verify that a mamogram would be sufficient in being able to pass this kind of comment or whether further investigation should have been carried out just in case?

Any advice welcome!

First you need to go get it checked out right now.

I recently had a mammo and they found a "round dense mass."
I freaked out. I immediatly assumed the worst.

After my ultrasound, and second mammo it was a Fibroadenoma tumor. Benign tumor. Those types of tumors can grow, but are usually painless. They are soft and squishy and move around.
My sister had her mammo last month, they found a very small -what they think is- a benign cyst. They want her back in three months to get it rechecked for growth.

Get yourself checked asap, to ease your mind if not more than anything.
