Hi everyone my name is Christine and I am 34 with my second round of breast cancer but now it is in the liver. I have had 4 chemo treatments and am doing well my tumor marker has really went down it is almost at a normal range. Have had some problems with acid reflux and my port but getting all that under control one day at a time.
The reason I am writing is to find others that have had the bc spread to the liver. When I was dx with this in January it was harder to except then it was the first time because I didn't expect it come back at all. And I still don't know how many tx I will get with this round of chemo. I am hoping just one or two more. And once tx is done and the tumor is gone then what is the doctor going to do to keep it from coming back. Anyone that has been through this please write back......

Hello Christine! Welcome! So glad you decided to de-lurk! I am 36, was initially diagnosed right before turning 31, it was over 5 years ago. Mine was treated with chemo and rads and I am on the last 2 months of Tamoxifen. I cannot offer you any insight to liver mets, but I remember Melody who had wonderful response with Herceptin, I think for several years. I think Shells has liver mets, so perhaps she will chime in too.

Where do you live? We are scattered all over, you can read about us in the roll call at the top of the board. What was your original diagnosis and when? You mentioned being surprised at the cancer's return, so I am guessing it was early the first time? Unfortunately, in this game of statistics, we see those who should never have a recurrance get mets...and luckily it works the other way too,.....those with less optimistic prognoses are here to laugh in the doctors' faces years later.

I don't know if anyone has liver mets here. I know you will hear from them if they do. Meanwhile, please feel at home and participate in any discussion you care to. I hope you are doing well on your chemo treatment and will be able to keep the cancer at bay. Hugs Mary K. (MK)

I'm sorry you are facing a recurrance, glad to hear all is well! What chemo are you doing? What is your hormonal status (er, her2neu)?

Hi Christine! I am glad that you decided to post. This is a wonderful, supportive, nutty group of women here. I was dx with a recurrance in Oct, 2003. I found out by the tumor tag count going sky high in just a 3 mo period. I now have a spot on my sacrum and had a couple of spots on my liver. I have been on a weekly regiment of herceptin and navelbine (did get a 4 week break last Oct and now get a 2 week break). The spots on my liver have totally disappeared. My onco has scans done every 3 -4 months. Every 4 weeks I have the full range of bloodwork. From what I have been told, and my research confirms this, is that I will be on this chemo until (and that is really not a word in my vocab at this point) it stops working. I would imagine that your drs will do all of the scans periodically as well as the tumor tag tests at your checkups. The herceptin is an easy drug to handle physically. I experienced few side effects from it. I agree with you that it is really harder to accept when you hear the words "recurrance" but those are just words that mean we have to start working hard once again to beat this never ending disease.

Kimberly, we have lots of young women here, in all different stages of breast cancer (newly dx'ed to long term survivor). You might encourage your client to come here and post, we love to welcome new members and she can be as anonymous or as vocal as she wishes. The great thing about this format is that a person can reveal what they went when they want, which can be easier than face to face. We're here for her!

I'm sorry you are facing bc in your liver. There is so much going on in the medical/science research arenas right now and I hope that you find the right meds for you. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and keep the faith!
