I am asking this information for a friend.  She doesn not have internet.  Does anyone out there know where she can get any catalogs for mastectomy bra's?  What I have found so far on the internet is only for ordering online.  She is kind of a private person and would prefer a catalog/s to see what is available out there.  If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Daisy, I do not have first-hand experience with a prosthesis and/or mastectomy bras, but perhaps you can request a catalog from the online resources. Also, you might try contacting the local American Cancer Society to request a source for a catalog, or perhaps her surgeon and/or oncologist would have a suggestion. Another place to try is the hospital where she had her surgery. Perhaps there is a social worker or breast health advocate that she could contact. We have several board members who have has mastectomies, so I am sure you will get some more advice. What a kind, caring friend you are. Best wishes to your friend. She may be able to access the internet at a public library if she would like to join in the discussions on various support boards. If I come up with more ideas, I'll add them later. Try visiting Breastcancer.org.........they have alot of good information there.

I am also sure that if you visit the websites of  Jodee or Amoena (makers of breast prosthesis's) that they would be glad to send you/your friend a catalog. I am sure that they would give you the locations of their dealers also.

JCPenney's has mastectomy bras in their catalog.  They also send out a Jodee catalog if you call and ask for it.  Most insurance will also cover a certain amount of bras each year - I would look into that and get them paid for - the easiest way to do that is go to a health care supplier.  They usually have a mastectomy bra fitter.

Looks like you have already gotten some good advice. I went to the yellow pages in my area and looked for a Health Care Service Supplier and found a place near where I worked at the time. I was fitted for a prosthethsis and bought two bras which were covered by my insurance totally. If your friend has not been fitted she should be. The weight and size of the prosthesis is very important for balance, etc. If she does not have insurance to cover, I would tell her to call American Cancer Society or a Breast Cancer group in her area for help. Here in TX we have a special source that is available only in our state. I am sure other states have the same type service. Good luck. Mary K.
