Breast Lump + general + Pregnancy

I had a lump removed with a local. I wasn't pregnant, but that was just the way my doctor chose to do it. Wasn't painful. I don't know why your doctor would object, but I would ask. I've also had other breast surgeries done under local ( I had a mastectomy, and then had a breast lift on the remaining side, as well as a nipple sharing procedure done... all under local).

Check with your doctor again. Considering your pregnancy, he may capitulate. Hope it turns out to be nothing.

In all honesty hon, you have a lot of decisions. Anything, medication, local anastia so on will be in your blood going to your baby. Congrats on your pregnancy! Because of my working the health field, I see a couple of options, in which you have to decide. I see you are scared that you have cancer. Let's go over what I see

1) Monitor the lump throughout pregnancy, have it removed after birthing the bundle of joy

2) Have it removed with local and fully understand what dangers it could have to your baby

3) Have it removed without local and endure the pain

4) Wait for biopsy results. However, please understand most biopies are inconclusive

5) Not do a thing

6) Pray and keep praying

7) Contact friends and family for moral support

I was diagnosed with BC last April when I was around 32 weeks pregnant (which is in a lot safer trimester then yourself) but I had surgery under general as my surgeon advised the only risk was that of inducing labour.

Everything went well and my son was born six week later (by induction) naturally.

I do not envy you as it is so early in your pregnancy but I wish you all the luck and I hope it all works out.

You should of told them of your pregnancy hon. In severe cases, misscarriage.
Your Anesthesia medication has also went to the baby, not only you. Any medication goes through your blood. Blood is exchanged and waste leaves the fetus through the umbilical arteries. Anesthesia acts on the brain and the central nervous system. During the first trimester, early development of these structures is occurring. Neonatal behavioral changes is the most reported "side effect."
Your baby is already forming hon - by the time a person finds out they are prego the baby already is forming their heart, umbilical cord and vital organs. The first trimester of pregnancy is the period of greatest risk for the baby because during this stage the baby's organs are developing. Some medicines taken during this time have the potential to affect this development, which could result in malformations or birth defects.


So basically, your baby may have birth defects.

Working the health field (mods pls read carefully) it is my medical opinion that many doctors tend to think light of things. You should of seen the battle I had with a doctor over my patient today! I have a patient who is having a severe side effect from a medication and I started to ween them off the medication. My patient has told doctor of all side effects, to where they can not even hold fluid down for two months to no avail. Hence why I started the weening process. He has remarkably improved, so it is the medication. The doctor had a fit, and I looked at him and said "he has told you repeatedly, you chose to ignore. he is down to 70 lbs, from 150 lbs despite me adding ensure, and other liquid carbs." I won the battle, and got the med changed to a lesser potent thing.
The doctors don't want to alarm you, so they leave out information. I personally feel like kicking them back into med school, but that is me. I have a wonderful primary - who will take the time to listen as well as explain. Truthfully, there is risks with any medication (including local and general anestesia) - but its up to the body of how it is handled. Everyone reacts differently. My other half can take a benedryl and be knocked out like a sleeping baby. He can take a percocet (which was extremely a riot) after his surgery - and he acts high, bounces off walls, mixes sentences, changes thoughts and crashes. I had to convince him to lay down and close his eyes by saying I'd lay with him if he did what I said. Seriously, he was out by the time he hit the pillow. He had no memory of calling my cell phone repeatedly, talking funny, running up and down the stairs, getting into the icecream, riding the bicycle in the dining room. Course - I took a video to prove he was hysterical! Then I took the percocet away, and gave him Tylenol. Now me, I take percocet regulary and have no side effects - I don't go crazy.
Everyone is different hon, don't forget that. Everyone handles things, including medications differently. I hope you are the one that doesn't experiencing any problems. I work respite (home care) for a living, despite my fibromyalgia and chemotherapy. I also believe in full honesty, with everyone including my patients.
