Clutter: Discontinued items....

Yes it is trivial clutter, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway, just for fun. Really it is not that fun to me right now, as I am having to scramble to find new staples.

A few years back, the only body lotion that I liked seemed to disappear from shelves.  When my grandmother passed 2 years ago, I found a Walgreens brand version of Vasoline that I loved, and found a suitable replacement.

Recently I noticed I can no longer find my favorite underwear anymore. All the ones I have tried since then are too tight here, ride up there, or whatever. Can't find the right ones.

Shortly after, my bras seemed to be taken off the shelf. This is a real problem, considering I have 2 different cup sizes, and bra shopping is a terrible challenge.  If I find one where the cups work well as a compromise, then the straps are bad or the wire is bad or something just does not work right.

So while I am still trying to find new bras and underwear that fit, now I think my hair mousse is gone.  Over the years I have tried dozens of products and always gone back to mousse, the same brand. Now I have to find another one. 

Anyone else going through product withdrawal?

Thanks. I have done that with a craft product that I use on baby gifts, I buy it from the manufacturer. I may do that for my other items, if possible. You also reminded me that my favorite cotton PJ's from Nordstrom's are gone too.....

My favorite salad dressing, Carb Options, Olive Oil is recently gone from here too. Also, I was collecting white plates from Wal-Mart. They were square with rounded edges. They are gone now and my set wasn't complete. As if like wasn't tough enough. di

I too suffer from PVS (Product Vanishing Syndrome).  I live in terror of the day that my favorite brand Walmart Equate Facial cloths will dissappear, as they totally cleared up my "once-a-month-zit" for good.  So I buy a double pack everytime I go there...I must have a dozen or so in stock in my bathroom closet.  ;-)

Also love Herbal Essence Mousse, it makes my hair so shiny!  Again, I have to buy 2 with every trip to walmart. (gee maybe that's why I always end up spending $100 every time I go there????) 

My list goes on and on.....hand cream from Bath & Body Works (scent: moonlight path) I would FAINT if they discontinued that one....and I still miss my pattern at bed, bath and beyond... i think it was called golden pear (?) loved it, bought a few items... serving platter, bowls....then it was discontinued. (*!@)(&!@

I have had this problem, too. Favorite hot cooked cereal was Pettijohns, a rolled wheat version of oatmeal made by Quaker. One day it was gone every place I looked. I sent Quaker and email (they call them oat mails, cute huh?) and learned the cereal was availabe in limited markets under the name Mother's Own. To my surprise I found it on the shelf at my DD's supermarket in Noblesville, IN. Some products are just not carried in all parts of the country. DD cannot buy Old Dutch potato chips in Indiana and when we lived in Ohio, I could not get little macaroni rings. Used to import them everytime I came home to visit.

DH has struggled to find regular Dentyne chewing gum. Seems the company has gone to selling new versions. But, he likes the same of things (guess I am glad about that,since I am one of the same old things in his life). I found "Classic Dentyne" in a gas station/convenience store in Pagosa Springs, Colo., last summer and bought the last five packages they had. Recently, he found his gum at a local drug store, that ironically caters to area seniors. He is a happy camper again. Lori, you might try contacting Playtex and Warners and see if the styles are carried anywhere. Perhaps one of the outlet mall shops. What an interesting topic.

Maybe we need a list of what people are looking for and see if we have it in our market place. Hugs to all, Lauri

Well, I'm glad you brought this topic up. I've been looking everywhere for Quaker Oats Instant Oatmeal in cinnamon roll flavor. Since I haven't seen it in the last 5 or 6 trips to the grocery store, I'm guessing it's discontinued. Maybe they'll bring it back in the fall. Also, I finally bought Calvin Kline's Obsession from Robinson's May, and it was very expensive. It used to be everywhere. My son and I looked all over for it when we were in Mexico two years ago. I might have bought another bottle if I didn't have to take a second mortgage to buy it. Another gripe I have is that they bring out so many different variations of products that sometimes it's difficult to find the original, or I grab the wrong one by mistake. Why is life so complicated sometimes???

And now for your Marketing 101 lecture....

Every product has a "life cycle"...and when a product hits the stage called "maturity" (meaning its been selling well for a while) they sometimes decide to avoid moving into the next stage (decline) by CHANGING IT.   So much for giving the consumer what they want. Okay, lecture over.

Lori, I used to love Soft Sense too. I've switched to Aveeno, and I really like it (which means it's sure to disappear soon). I use Aveeno shave gel on my legs, and it's sometimes hard to find.

I bought a trash can for my kitchen that I just love, because it's a little bigger than the standard can, and it's square, so it fits nicely in the spot right in front of the phone...but being larger, the only can liners that fit are the trash compactor ones, more expensive than the standard ones and harder to find.

this has been a fun thread!  It reminded me of make-up, clothes, food and odds and ends I used to love but could no longer find.  DH should read this and then when I stock up on something I really like (like the super comfy Vassarette bras I found at Wal-Mart) he will understand.  These bras were the only ones of about 6 I tried that I could wear during rads.  They have all the support of an underwire without the wire!  I got 2 colors but each time I go to Wal-Mart I look to see if they still have them.  This thread has me ready to head out the door to go get a dozen or so!
