Judy,

 

Praying that your first chemo next Weds the 25th goes well and that you have childcare lined up and can relax as much as possible. Time to pamper yourself and fight this beast back.  The wig

party is a great way to have fun while dealing with the inevitable. I

am praying for little Sara too.

Hi MK,

 

Not sure how often Judy is posting or lurking, but you know how it goes once treatment starts......support becomes even more precious. She has her hands full with 2 little ones and I'm sure many of the ladies here in that situation can help with how to handle that one!  Little Sara is not so thrilled with the idea of Mom losing her hair.

 

I'm doing well.....thank God.  I get lymphedema flair ups from time to time, but hey, I'm here!  My 5 years from surgery will be June 27th and we are going up to Lake Tahoe (about an hour and a half from here) to celebrate.

 

Mark (my youngest) is getting Married June 4th to an amazing young lady ~~~ Woo Hoo, I have my 2 daughters now.  Justin, his older brother, will be the Pastor and the Best Man.  Knowing Justin, it should be entertaining as well as meaningful.

 

My Dad passed away March 21st and  that has been a huge transition for me.  His final days and hours were very sweet and peaceful, but I miss him SO much.  He was a larger than life Daddy and a dear friend.  Justin did his Service too and that was tearful, but again, meaningful.

 

Hope you and your Doggies are well.  I'm down from 4 to 2.  The Aussie, Sydney and a new lab puppy (10 months) Sampson.  He is a yellow, but is pure white.  "Jaws" would be a better name since he has no discrimination on what he chews or swallows........including

rocks.....don't get me started on THAT Vet bill ~ Ha!

Hi Joany.

I understand how busy Judy must be with kids as well as dealing with the chemo. My daughter had two young ones when she went through chemo, too, and I don't know how she managed so well. Hope Judy is lurking and knows we are here for her if she needs us. Meanwhile I think most everyone keeps all of the board in their prayers, so she is covered there, too.

Sounds like you have a very special wedding coming up, I know you will be so proud of both your sons and of course your new daughters, too. Grandkids? You know my grandson and his wife had a baby girl in March? So I am a great grandma. I am going to see them this next weekend before they move to Ft Meyers, FL where he has accepted a job as Youth Pastor.

I am sorry you lost your dad. I know you were close and how difficult it is to lose someone you love.

My mother is really giving us fits. She turned 92 this month. She was lost driving around in her car for an entire day and laughed about it, saying she is fine..... right! She flew down here to my grand daughter's wedding with my brother and sil and ten days later apologized to bride on the phone for having missed her wedding. She lives alone in an apartment 50 miles from any family member and won't consider moving. The apt mgmnt passed out leases for the new year and she signed hers and returned it as quickly as she could so my brother and I couldn't stop her. She argued with me on the phone how well she is because she won her bridge game that day, saying her mind is just fine and that proves it. I am so angry with her right now I wake up in the middle of the night worrying about her and wondering what to do. The above stories are just a couple things she has done recently to make us worry about her living alone. She thinks her friends will watch over her, but truth be known those friends are in worse physical shape than she is. Her body is fine, but her mind is going downhill and she will not admit it. She calls me her sister's name sometimes and my daughter is sometimes my dad's sister. Whew............. what to do, what to do?

I had to put down my Heidi due to congestive heart failure. I have two dogs left and both of them are hurting with hip arthritis. Boy are they different since the Alpha dog is gone. I envy your new puppy in some ways, altho going through puppyhood is very difficult. I don't know what I will do when these two dogs are gone. They are both old so it won't be far off.

I'm so sorry about your Mom MK,

 

Sounds like her independence isn't something she wants to hand over anytime soon.  That is one of the hardest parts of aging parents I think.  Honoring them as a parent and yet needing to protect them from themselves and others too.  I will keep you in my prayers on that one and I can sure see how you would worry.

 

Sorry about your Heidi......that's so hard.  We had to put 12 year old Ewok down (the country pomeranian) and I was a basket case.  Cried and cried.....so I can relate.  Not that you want to even think about it now, but there are always adult dogs needing good rescue homes and maybe you could avoid all the puppyness in the future.  For now you can enjoy those companions.  Boxers aren't they? Or was that the neighbors boxers that got skunked?

My dogs are Schnauzers. They are supposed to be Minature but one accidently grew into large Schnauzer size with short legs. She is the baby of the other one I have, both are blacks. We did raise this one from puppyhood but then her Mama was there to help. Her Mama we got when she was 1 1/2 and Heidi I got when she was 4 months old. Yesterday someone pulled into my driveway with a cocker spaniel that they found running down the road. It was nearly 100 degrees and he was so hot. Anyhow we made several calls, she drove around knocking on doors and finally found a man who thought he knew where the dog belonged and took him to keep him safe until he could find the owners. Yes, it was Boxers my neighbor had, he moved several years ago now and I still miss the dogs.

My mother is a trip. Neither my brother nor I have heard from her in almost a week. We figure we need to let her stew in her apartment alone awhile. She has never been a sweet loving mother like some people have. Remember my brother is a minister and a saint in so many ways, but she stretches him to the limit also. Enuf said on that one. LOL.

MK: I have worked in administration in several diff nursing homes. The description that you have given about your mom reminds me of so many of the residents. My passion is alzheimers patients. I will never forget a lady whose kids put her in our home. Her husband had died and she withdrew all of their monies out of 4 diff accounts. It totalled over 150,000.00. She then preceded to put it in her freezer because she thought it would be safe. The problem...she thawed out her freezer and threw "everything" away..including the $150,000.00. Have you thought about possibly finding someone that would check on your mom a couple of times during the day and of an evening? Say, someone not in her "click" of friends? Also, I am very surprised that she has been allowed to retain her license and car. Maybe her pp can help you all out. Aren't parents wonderful? God help me if I turn out like my mother. I have told my kids to just shoot me if that happens. lol

Thanks for the prayers.  I must admit lurking around the site looking for info.  I made it through the first chemo and everyone was right it was scarier before I got there.  It was just a little bit scary.  I'm kinda tired but feel fine.  I'm not looking forward to giving myself a shot each day but I'm sure I'll get used to that quick enough.    The nurses were really nice.

I just know that with so many people praying for me and thinking of me it carried me through with out too much anxiety.

Well you made it through your first chemo.  Now that awful "wondering what it will be like" is over.  I will be keeping you in prayer as you deal with however your body reacts.  You are in a battle and are on the offense my friend.  I'm so glad you had good Nurses.....that makes a difference and I'm sure they recommended that you take the nausea meds even if you don't feel really bad.  It keeps that nausea at bay.

 

I got behind on them once and learned the hard way how much they really do help, especially with the AC. I felt pretty good after the first night & I went to bed without taking my Zofran....then about 3am I woke up with a really yucky tummy.  Everyone's different and you will learn how your body reacts.  Later in the chemo cycle I would take the occasional tums or suck on a peppermint and it helped.

 

Since you have those little ones, hand sanitizer will be another of your best friends during chemo.  Sorry you have to do the shots and hopefully it too will be better than the anticipation of it.

 

I lurk lots too and don't post all that often, so you are in good company.  Thanks Judy for your card.  I have it up in my office :-)

Judy glad you made it through No 1 without too much difficulty. I would not relish giving myself shots, either. Since I am now diabetic it may be in my future, too, so let me know how it goes, ok? Joany offered some great advice about the hand wash. You have to be especially careful of germs. Hugs MK

First day done!  Went to work for about 6 hours then came home to rest a little.  Not sure if I'm not feeling well or just regular tired from all the stress.  But anyway I feel ok now.  I am taking 2 kinds of anti nausea meds each day for 5 days.

The shot was ok, it hurt.  Mike said it was different than the practice skin.  I'm sure we will get better at it.  We will have enough practice anyway.

Thanks again for being here.  It's nice to talk with those who understand all the wierd feelings that you need to deal will.
