Burning sensation and pain in left breast

I asked, but based upon what the oncologist said yesterday, I did not move up the mammo. He said if I was having trouble sleeping move the date up, but he felt that there was no other reason to. However, I am keeping careful vigilance of any changes whatsoever. Right now, we are waiting for the application, review, and approval process with the insurance company for the breast MRI with plans to have everything done the same day. The thing is since I have no redness, no orange peel skin, no skin thickening, and no inverted nipple, there is nothing there for a visual diagnosis. Based upon what I have been reading, the only thing that a mammo or ultrasound will pick up is possible skin thickening as there are no specific tumors with this condition. And, sometimes MRIs provide false positives. Besides visual queues, the only thing that sounds definitive in terms of diagnosis is biopsy, but without visual clues and with the breast feeling (i.e., the itching and occasional stabbing pain) jumping around, it is going to be interesting to see how they figure out where to biopsy unless the MRI shows something. I just have to believe there is a such thing as early IBC and you shouldn't have to wait until it is Stage IIIB or IV for a diagnosis. I keep searching the web for early diagnosis and can't find anything. But, here I sit with something in my breast not feeling right. I wonder if there is a female IBC expert out there?

I have just registered as a member and am new to the forum situation but have seen the posts between ctlyn and barkboys and wondered how ctlyn got on with her mammogram and other tests on 10 August? I hope all was well? I am going through similar pains etc at the moment and am waiting for an MRI and bone scan. I know in my heart of hearts that there is nothing wrong but have reached the stage where I need all the tests to be clear so that the problem can be dealt with as the pain and associated symptoms are not going away. The specialist I saw said that sometimes it can be a side effect of the radiotherapy but I have been fine for two years so why now?

I'm new to this online community and forum. I found this thread trying to gather information on IBC and breast pain.

I'm 35 yrs old and have a 5 month old and a 21 mth old.

I have several medical conditions (fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, endometriosis, and issues with my spine)

5 days ago, I began to experience severe throbbing and pain in my left breast. It came on suddenly. Throbbing, aching, shooting pains, tingling and itching which feels like its deep in my breast. When I took off my top and looked, my left breast was shockingly swollen! My husband said it looks at least two cup sizes larger than the right! (Btw, I was unable to breast feed our youngest and thus my milk dried up about 1 mth postpartum. My breasts have always been pretty even in size and shape.

I went to the Dr on Tuesday and she agreed that there was a drastic difference in size and was quite concerned. She said it does not look like an infection and I had been on antibiotics for 7 days prior for strep throat (the same type which would be used to treat mastitis) and the issues with my breast came on after a week on the antibiotics.

I had an ultrasound Wednesday but they said it takes 4-5 business days for the results :(

The pain is slightly less now on Day 5, but the swelling is still there, some slight darkening on the underside and I'm getting poking sensations within my nipple.

I am trying to maintain cautious optimism but I am very very afraid. Does an ultrasound normally catch IBC? I am feeling that I will want a biopsy done either way, just to ease my mind. I really feel in my gut that something is terribly wrong but I keep looking for other possible things it could be.

Any advice, thoughts or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Hi, I am new to all of this so I really don't know how to start. I am 43 years old. I had a breast reduction in 2006 and several mommagrams so far the dr said everything has been ok until last Wednesday when I went for my annual checkup( well actually it has been 2 years since I went.) Anyway he found a lump in my left breast, it is no where near any of my scars. He ordered a sonogram and a mammogram. The girl that did the sonogram said she wasn't really seeing anything so I went for the mammogram. The lady that did it took four films, she said she wasn't seeing anything but because he felt the lump she had to do 2 more. After she did those all she said was he will talk to you in a few minutes. I talked to my dr, he mentioned sending me to a surgeon for bioptsy after we got the full results from the films. I am waiting to hear something now. I have had burning in my left breast along with a sharp pain every once in a while. The pain only lasts a few seconds then goes away. I have also had some night sweats and fatigue. My left breast is slightly larger than the right one. Sometimes the burning feels like something is trying to pinch the end of my breast off. I don't know if I should be concerned or if I am just paranoid. Like I said I have had the symptoms for several months but just never told anyone because I guess I felt it wasn't important. I also had a historectomy in 2003 but he left my overies. My mom passed away from cancer when she was 55 but it wasn't breast cancer. I just don't know how to feel. I am afraid it might be something and the tests not catch it, then on the other hand maybe I am paranoid. Thanks for listening and sorry I rambled and might not have made any sense at all.

For those of you with burning pain in your breast and you're concerned with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) and you know that a Mammogram and Ultrasound don't always show if IBC is present, another great option that is FDA approved that WILL show IBC is a Breast Thermography scan.

Breast Thermography shows temperature changes and inflammation in the breast tissue. It is well known to show estrogen dominance changes in breast tissue that can predict cancerous changes 7-10 years before the cancer actually appears. Breast thermography can also show inflamed breast tissue around tumors, blood flow to tumors that might be missed by a mammogram/ultrasound, and other wonderful insight into breast tissue health.

Breast Thermography is highly recommended for women of all ages as a breast health exam in addition to the annual Mammogram (since breast thermography helps predict disease before it occur whereas mammogram only helps find disease once it already happens). Breast Thermography is also really great for women 20-39 years old for breast health exams when you can't get a mammogram because your breast tissue is too dense and insurance won't cover a mammogram. I have a breast thermography done annually because I have estrogen dominance in my breasts (shown on the thermography scan) and I'm trying to balance my hormones to ensure the excess estrogen doesn't cause cellular changes in my breasts and lead to breast cancer.

Breast thermography usually runs somewhere in the ballpark of $200 for the scan and has immediate test results so you know the result of the scan the same day as your appointment. Like I said it is FDA Approved so it is a great additional test in your arsenal and well worth the cost if you need peace of mind.

If you google "Breast Thermography" and the name of your city you can find centers that do breast thermography scans in your area - I would recommend checking the location you choose on Yelp.com as well (free ratings website) to see if the breast thermography location you choose has good ratings or not from women who have gone there previously for scans.

I would sincerely encourage each of you to do some research on Breast Thermography scans. They can really help you determine the health of your breasts.

Hi, im 20 and have had a baby 12 weeks ago and the last 2-3 weeks i leep getting like a ripping/tearing feeling in my left breast & just wonderd if anybody had any idea on what it could be?x

Hi , I am 37 and last week noticed a bruise on my left breast, I am a 42DD , and the bruise is about the size of a nice sized lime. Under the bruise is a hard lump about the size of a marble. Its hard and painful, I have a constant burning sensation in the breast. I went to the ER, by the DR just touching it, no mri or tests, he diagnosed me eith a breast mass, and told me to see a breast surgeon. I have no ins, and do not know what to do. Has anyone had this issue? It had been one week since symptoms appeared, the burning and sharp pains seem to get worse later in the day .

Thank you so much for this discussion.  I am experiencing the same symptoms, and am awaiting a diagnostic mammogram scheduled for Dec 9th.  I had never heard of IBC until reading this thread so feeling very apprehensive.  I do have a very small lump along with the burning and pain, which seems to be worsening , so will now be able to start some serious research.  Have a very cancer heavy family history, so this is a scary time.  Everybody's sharing is so helpful.

I just got this "burning" sensation today and my question is, could it be a referred burning type sensation from a sterotactic biopsy from the other breast? Could it be PMS related? The Dr told me since I have a hemotoma from the biopsy that it could take 3 months or more to heal. I have nerve type pain on the breast that had the biposy. How long can nerve pain last?

I have fibrocystic breasts as well as dense breasts. I've had a sterotactic biposy in my right breast (which came out fibrocystic/benign), an MRI on both breasts and now I have off and on discomfort in my right breast and a pulled muscle/spasm feeling from time to time in my left breast. I am told that pain or discomfort can linger for many months after a biopsy. I am now on week 11. But I'm wondering if the left breast issue is referred pain from chronic neck and back pain? Although I have had the chronic neck and back pain for a long time, the breast thing on that side just started. Sometimes I will wear a tank top under my clothes instead of a vra and wonder if the gravity of not wearing a bra has anything to do with it. Anyone have any ideas?
