Staph infection from Biopsy!HORRIBLE infection resulting from biopsy on left breast 10 yrs ago. Now 2 additional biopsies later I have Stage 0 Microcalcification Cancer. After doing research I have found that there is some connection to this type cancer and prior breast infections. Anyone else have this? Is that infection caused from a bad biopsy to blame for what I'm facing now?

Just wanted to pop on and welcome you. I have never heard of any of this. I'm unfamiliar with what stage you're referring to, and I'm not quite sure I'm following what you're saying.

Can you provide more details?

My doctor is a breast specialist and I intend to ask him at my next appt. but I have researched and found some connection to my diagnosis of Stage Zero Microcalcification malignancy to be connected to former injury, operation or infection in that breast. I had my first biopsy about 11 yrs ago in a hospital with a regular surgeon. It was benign and it was a fatty fibrous lump. However I got a terrible staph infection at the surgery incision site. I had high fever and red streaks and a huge amount if pain and drainage from the incision which was on the nipple so it was extremely painful! I had to go to the surgeon daily to have a needle inserted to drain fluids. The surgeon never billed me at all. I think he felt very bad about it but my concern is if that staph infection has resulted in my recent malignancy then do I have recourse???

You have received a diagnosis that you have a malignant tumor and that it is cancerous, yes?

You believe you "contracted" it due to a biopsy you had 11 years ago?

I'm not a doctor, but I do not see a potential connection.

It's rare but not uncommon for there to be drainage at a surgical site.

It's also not uncommon to have cysts that need to be fine needle aspirations,--sometimes more than once, because a cyst is a fluid filled sac, and unless the sac is fully removed, it will just fill up again, but the aspirations provide relief.

I'm also confused if you're asking questions about having cancer (confirmed?) or if you are asking about if this is a potential situation that you can sue a doctor for?

What is your cancer treatment plan? (I'm still not quite following....you're implying a staph infection caused you to have cancer?)

Was your infection treated?

Bear with me, because I'm completely unfamiliar with this type of scenario and what type of results you feel you got because of those procedures done 11 years ago.

I do know when I was having my biopsy, they asked me if I ever had any kind of trauma to my breast. I'm sure I have been hit plenty of times, who hasn't but not the trauma you are describing and I'm sure an infection is also included in the "trauma". What that really means I don't know.

I'm just trying to see if there is a connection to the two. In my mind I want to know how or why I am dealing with this. If I could figure out the how/ why it would help me with my anxiety. I also know that in many cases there is no answer and it just happens. I'm just trying to see if I have stumbled onto a why?

I can appreciate that because I'm one of those "why" people too. I have to know "why" to everything.

In that regard, know that I understand where you're coming from.

Sometimes, so much time can be wasted searching for answers to "why" that we prolong or procrastinate doing the work that's needed to attend to the situation at hand.

Sometimes, it just happens. Sometimes, there is no clear-cut answer.

I do hope that while you're on your quest for a correlation, that you seek appropriate medical attention.
