Sexuality and Cancer

I just got home from my first radiation treatment. Maybe it was just based on today's visit, and I didn't spend sufficient time poking around, but I felt a bit,....well, wait, I'm not going to actually pass a judgment. I want to see if others experienced it too.

There seemed to be a prolific amount of literature about PC and sexuality for men with PC, dysfunction, support....

And while I did see literature about BC, -- at least during today's visit, I did not see anything addressing how BC affects women and our sexuality.

I'll look again when I go tomorrow, but these PC/sexuality pamphlets were even in the changing rooms, not just the waiting rooms.

I'm aware these issues may be addressed in groups and such, but,...

The clinic I go to has "support meetings" once a month as well.

I honestly don't understand that idea, not in terms of "support" of patients going through the disease process and all the baggage that comes with it.

The only way I can really see it is as a potential platform for patients to potentially meet other patients and potentially form friendships outside of said support group and potentially support each other privately.

Because let's be honest, once a month for 2 hours.

There are so, so many topics that we need touched upon, and not just the disease, but the many ways it impacts our lives, our intimacy issues, our self confidence, our hope and outlook, how we approach relationships, what we're thinking in our minds pretty much all the time and wondering or guessing that it's probably on their mind too but nothing's spoken and so no air gets cleared.

What I found frustrating were how many meetings per month, per week, were directed towards men with PC.

Something happened, something IS happening along the way.....and I feel like we're being left behind.
