Hi... i am scheduled for a double mastectomy on July 14th. I am researching bras and was wondering if anyone can recommend a brand or what they find works for them.

Have you scoped out Amazon?

I know there are companies that specialize in these types of bras and I've certainly seen them featured.

Have you found anything yet?

No I haven't yet. I was wondering what worked for other people. Do I get a bra after I know what size I am? How does that work.

Are you going to wear prosthetics? I went to a store that sells only stuff for women who have had mastectomies. They measured me and figured out what size bras and implants to use.

To be honest I love going braless most of the time. But I have the bra and silicon or foam implants to put in the bra when I am going out. These look very natural.

Good luck to you. It was a big decision for you I am sure. I did it though and I am very glad I did.

I went to a Medical Supply Store. They carried bras. Or at first I wore a camisole with little slits where you can slide the prosthetics in and it velcros down the front. Much more comfortable st first. My oncologist had to write a prescription for my bras and prosthetics . Lady measured me picked out brass. and got 2 sets of prosthetics one for daily wear and one for swimming. Thoughts and prayers sent your way ! Hope for a speedy recovery! I had a partial mastectomy on June 4th. I hear your worry, I know it well. I found a wonderful plus size bra at Walmart. 9 front snaps, nylon/spandex, Fruit of the Loom, style FT308 RN 97431. I went back and got 2 more, and one in size 46 as the swelling went down a lot and I've lost a lot of weight. The sentinel lymph node scar is kinda high up near my arm pit and for the first few weeks the edge of the bra seemed to make the scar more sore, so I used a folded new white hanky to pad my stitches from the bra. I'm starting radiation treatments next week. Prayers your way,

Hi! I'm in WNY and went to Elizabeth Wende clinic for my second opinion. Had my surgery at the Lipson Cancer Center in RGH. I found a similar bra on Amazon. The front hooks made it so much easier to stuff my poor swollen boob into a bra. It helped to lean forward, too. The swelling started to go down in a week. My 7 inch suture lines were actually only 4 1/2 inches. :-) I have lupus and fibro, too. I'll think of you on the 14th. Prayers your way, god bless.
