I am so sorry to hear about Shelly. I, also, did not know her but she was still my sister. I hate this disease!!!! I have not posted in a long time - I have been visiting and reading. I watched the video tribute and it was so touching. She looked like someone that anyone couldn't help but love. I will be praying for her family. My friend who had cancer last year died before Christmas - she was older than me, in her 60's and it hurts but not like a 29 year old woman with young children.
When you pray, please remember this kindergarten child at the elementary school where I teach. She is 5 and has been diagnosed with a tumor on 3/4ths of her liver. They were going to operate but it was too big so she has begun chemo. It's so horrible. She was put in the hospital this week to have a feeding tube put in because she can't eat. Too sick. Her mom (a teacher) just had a baby and has no sick leave and husband is having to take off work so we are busy rounding the troops and raising money for this family and for the annual cancer walk. It has really hit home at our school - our kids are really learning compassion and are really hitting adults up for money! HA. Who can turn down a child who just wants a 5 year old to have the chance to go to 1st grade next year. My class asked me what would happen if the chemo didn't work and I couldn't answer. I finally told them that the doctors would do something else and that we would do our part and raise money and PRAY!!!! God knows how we will explain it, if the treatment doesn't work. God knows how her family will survive it.........
Sorry to bring bad news but the good news is that I am still doing very well!!! Almost 2 years now since the recurrence, time flies when you're having fun!!!!
