I am new to this forum. I guess I just need to talk. I just got a breast cancer diagnosis. I am beyond terrified an so down. I have not seen a surgeon yet, that is next week, and I feel like I just can't get through this . Is this a common reaction? Diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. 2 nodules, 1 is grade 1 and the other grade 2. I don't even know what any if this means. I sure don't want to start looking up things on the internet either. I also suffer from anxiety and panic disorder and am on that forum too.

Iam, I am sorry about your diagnosis. However, try to keep in mind there is so much treatment for breast cancer. Your reaction is quite normal & yes you can do it.

I am going to direct you to www.inspire.com/groups/breast cancer/. The reason is this forum is very slow not much activity. this forum has not had a mod in quite some time which is why its so slow. One of members in the prostate cancer forum highly recommends this group because it is a great forum for knowledge & support. I just think you will get better info & support in an active forum.

Well here I am again. I will be having a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. Will see the plastic sugeon on Tuesday. Anyone out there have the reconstructive surgery right after the mastectomy? I am so worried about the pain involved, not the surgery itself. Obviously there will be pain, but having anxiety issues also, I am obsessing over the pain. I am 67 and afraid I won't deal well with the pain. Didn't really know who to talk to, so anyone that can ease my mind would help immensely. LOL..Feeling like a big ole baby.

IAM, no you are not being a big baby. You are on an emotional roller coaster for now & will be for awhile. Please understand this is totally normal at any age.

I do know that some patients are candidates for reconstructive immediately. It depends on the patient & the dr, also the cancer type itself. I have seen it done both ways.

Your drs wil address the pain issues. The best thing is to address your fears with your dr about pain. They need to be aware ahead of time. Believe me you are not the first one to be worried about any pain.

We do not have any active members that has had the surgery you are. This forum is so slow because they do not have a mod here to help keep it going. Any threads you can pull up are going to be old ones & there is a good chance things have changed in the medical field so you may end up with old info. That is why I gave you the Inspire web site. Several of the men in the PC forum belong to that group & I understand it is a very active cancer forum. Cancer of all types. We really only have one current member posting here now named Exqualls. Her situation is different from yours. She has had radiation & now on chemo, her reconstruction surgery will be the last thing.

I am so glad that you found Inspire & it is helpful to you. Its a shame this forum does not have a mod to help keep it going. If it was an active forum members could get more current medical information shared by members. My fear is so much of the treatment in the older threads being out of date with current treatments.

However, if you would like to come here & update your progress as you take steps, by all means do so. You can pull up your original thread you have started here & update as yo progress along. Sometimes sitting down & writing about things helps. Also, HW has a huge reader base & your story may help another person. When you scroll to the bottom of this page often you will see there are so many guests online. Guests are readers only, they are not members & they are reading in various forums. Some people are not interested in joining a forum they would rather read.

I am scheduled to have my surgery on April 25th. Scared, like you can't believe. I have never had any kind of major surgery, so this is huge. I have a wonderful support system and know they will always be here for me.

Iamamess... hoping you're still on this board. Interested in how everything is going as I got the same DX and may be doing a double mastectomy with reconstruction

MedicalCatchAll just saw your post. Had surgery a little over 6 months ago. Surgery went well and I had my right breast mastectomy. I decided against reconstruction after surgery, worried about complications because of my weight. It was a little hard to adjust to having a flat side along with a saggy D cup breast. LOL.. Margins and lymph nodes clear so no chemo or radiation needed. I was really lucky.
I have my silicone prosthetic and all new bras and I feel whole again. Realization sets in at bedtime when I remove my bra. I am now taking Letrozole. This is something I will take for 10 years, I believe. There are side effects that bother me but, a small price to pay to keep me cancer free.
I am sorry you have to go through this, but you will do great. I had so much support from family and friends and that means so much. I hope you too have a great support system.

IAM, I am so excited to see your post & read about how well you are doing. That is fantastic. I have several friends & a sister that are survivors too. It is amazing now what can be done for treatment.
