Ok I have been MIA for a while. A long while!
I am about halfway through what I like to call "chemo-light"....it's just like chemo but without the annoying side effects...my Herceptin treatments. The onco thought it would be a good idea for me to get it since I was HER2 +3. A lot easier than the first round of chemos, except that my veins are shot from the Adriamyacin so they have to poke around a lot before the get anything...ouch!
So my question is for those who may have had a total hyster including ovaries removed...since that is what I am going to have done in May. They have found quite a number of reasons to remove it all, not including the cancer. The thing is that every male doctor I tell this to seems to react like, "they're going to remove your ovaries?! Oh, dear Lord!" as if this has never happened to a woman in her late 30s.
My gyn (who is a woman) says that as long as I take Fossomax and do weight bearing exercise (healthy diet, yadda, yadda) that I should be OK. So, has anyone out there had ovaries removed early and care to share your experience? I already had a taste of menopause when the chemo stopped everything for a year (been there done the hot flash).
ps: on another note, all this came about because it turn out that my Mom took DES while she was pregnant....I had no idea and just learned about all the effects of this from the CDC website. It makes me wonder if that is also what caused my BC, too.....
Miss you all!
Love,
Erin
