I have a question. I went for my mammogram and sonogram today. The technician came in and said he couldn't see any abnormalities, but I am to still get the biopsy done. Here's my question: Do I need to do that if he didn't find anything wrong? They are pretty reliable aren't they? Are sunken depressions and lumps normal? Okay that's more than one but they didn't have time to answer my questions and I was hoping you might have some insight. Thank-you for being here.

Glad you got this appt. over with. While mammos are good they do not catch everything. I had a large area of cancer that didn't show up on the mammo or ultrasound. I would strongly recommend having the biopsy just to make sure. I think you will feel much better knowing 100%!

Melissa: I am glad that these 2 tests are behind you. It is great news that the tech said he didn't see anything wrong. But, I agree w/ Julie. The only way to be sure that there is nothing there is to have the biopsy. You already have the appointment. Keep it and ease your mind 100%.

Yes, get the biopsy. I'm sure you're very apprehensive about the procedure, but I'm sure others will tell you the same thing - it's actually not that bad. They will numb your breast ahead of time, so that shot might hurt a bit. Afterward, I wasn't very sore at all. I even had handbell practice that night swinging bells and damping the sound against my upper chest area. A couple of tylenol did the trick. It's just best to find out definitively what the lump is. Glad to hear from you again, please keep us posted!!!!!

My cancer did not show up on mammo or u/s either, but it did show up on an MRI.  If you have dense breast tissue tumors are often missed on mammo and u/s.  Breast MRI is fairly new technology and not all radiology facilities are able to provide them. MRI is also "too" sensitive, and results in many false positives. There are certain criteria that determine the indications for MRI use in breast imaging; high risk and dense breasts are among them. They are also costly so your insurance may make it difficult to get one. But as the others have already said, a biopsy is the only way to know what is there for sure! Good luck! We will be hoping for benign results!Frayda

By all means, get the biopsy. My tumor did not show up on the mammogram, although they knew it was cancer from the u/s. The 2 tests are very good, but not 100%....this will be the sure way to tell it is nothing to worry about.

Better to be err on the side of caution....hang in there!

Here's another 2 cents worth. Definitely have the biopsy done. As Frayda said some breasts are dense and the mammogram is not capable of seeing everything in them. A lump and a dent should not be in your breast and they need to be checked out by biopsy, there is no doubt about that. We are here to help if you have more questions. Hugs MK
