Sad News!

Most of you do not remember Shells. She was not able to sit at her computer for some time.  I am sorry to say she lost her battle last night and is now another of our angels to be remembered. She fought every inch of the way and left her daughter many cards and pictures and letters to hallmark each and every special event that she would not be there to share. She had her best friend go through every album and explained each and every silly picture to her, so someday Katie will be able to explain them to her daughter. Shells took some silly pictures that she said needed explaining to be funny. I never remember Shells complaining until one treatment took away her taste for chocolate. After all she had been through without a complaint she really let me know about that one. Anyone that ever did the chats with Shells knows when she turned up the chat turned to chocolate. I hate this disease and have had a couple of very rough months with watching so many become angels, but she started her  battle when she was 28 and of all the loses, a young mother is the worst. I hope I never have to write another post like this. No one can understand how mean this disease is until they see how mean it can be first hand. Sadly, Joyce

Hello ladies.  I haven't posted in a very long time.  I was busy getting on with life after cancer. Pretty selfish of me, not to keep in touch with my breast friends. Hearing the news of Shelley's passing really brought me to a place I haven't had to be for a long time.  The pain of losing a loved one.  This is truly a sad day.  I hate cancer.  I hate it I hate it!!

My heart is breaking just reading your post. I wish this da** disease would stop taking our angels at such an early age, or at any age. I will kepp her family and you in my prayers.

Oh Dear God, I did not expect to see news like this. And I really did not want to see it. Shelley was so beautiful inside and out and her Kalia is adorable. She was good to share pictures of their dear family. This is a very sad day. Lori is right we all need hugs today. Prayers for everyone, too. Love MK

I remember Shells! This is awful! I hate it when we loose anyone, but the young mom's ......breaks my heart.

Oh Joyce! I remember Shelly, Kalia and the chocolate. I have had a really hard time posting here since Becky left us. This was a terrible shock. My heart breaks at the thought of all the lovely ladies, moms, daughters, and sisters we have lost to this dreaded disease. Sending hugs to all of you on this board, I usually check daily, just have trouble posting. I love you all and you are always in my thoughts and prayers. Sending prayers to Shelly's family. I hate cancer!

Joyce, thanks for letting us know this sad news.  My thoughts are with you, I know how close that you were to Shells.  

I am sending special "hugs" to all of you here, this news is so hard to hear.

She was so full of energy and life, and loved her family so much.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Shells but I can tell from reading the other posts what a remarkable young woman she was. The legacy that she left for her young daughter is one that she will help keep her mother alive and in her heart forever. It is so difficult to continue to fight this disease and read or know others that have lost their battle. I feel that the best way that we can honor these women that we have lost is to continue to fight this disease w/ our heads held high and their memories in our hearts. And not stop fighting until there is a cure!

For all of you that did not know Shells but took the time to post, I want to thank you so much. While more and more of us are survivors we have to take time to honor the ones that do not. For this I thank all of you that did not know her for taking the time to post. Claire so good to hear from you again, just so sorry it had to be for this reason. To all of Shells friends I know we share fond memories and the pain of lighting yet another candle on the wall of courage. Thanks again so very much to all of you. "Kokomo resident Shelly Jean Griggs, 29, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, in her residence. She was born Oct. 11, 1976, a daughter of Fred and Wilma (Brewer) Williams. They survive. On Sept. 18, 1999, she married Keith Griggs in Kokomo, and he survives.

Shelly was a member of Church of God of the Union Assembly and loved spending time with good friends. She enjoyed taking pictures, talking and playing games. She liked traveling and really liked to eat.

She is survived by her husband of six years, Keith Griggs of Kokomo; one daughter, Kalia Griggs of Kokomo; her parents, Fred and Wilma Williams of Kokomo; a brother, Doug Williams of Kokomo, and an incredible friend, Katie Smidebush of Indianapolis.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, with the Rev. Donny Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. When you go to read her obituary, it directs you to www.mem.com. I hope each of you can go there and watch what they call the movie of her life. It's a slide show of beautfiul pictures of Shells from when she was a baby throughout her life.

While thinking of Shells this week, I have been praying for Keith and Kalia. Shells was about the age of my children -- much too young to leave behind a young daughter. She left behind a beautiful legacy for Kalia. May she know what a strong woman her mother was.
