Hello Kenzie! Take a deep breath and "attempt" to relax. I was first diagnosed w/ bc in 2001. I was rediagnosed in Oct, 2004. Stage IV, mets to the bone. I have to tell you that I was scared to death. I think that part of the reason is that I knew what treatments entailed but the other part were the words "mets to the bone". I felt the same way that you do now. Get my affairs in order. I couldn't sleep or eat. I just wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it. But, after researching all of the treatments and having faith in my medical team, I had weekly treatments for 26 months. In February I received an "ALL CLEAR"!
You have to remember that just because you are diagnosed as Stage IV, does NOT mean a death sentence. Just the opposite. There are many new drugs that have been approved since both of our first diagnosis. There are clinical trials w/ new drugs. One of the most important things that you must try and do is keep a positive attitude. I know how difficult this is. But surround yourself w/ fun and positive people. Laugh. It helps w/ healing both physically and mentally plus relieves stress.
One of the best things that I did for myself was to call the Y-Me hotline one night. I was able to speak to another woman that had the same diagnosis that I had. She was able to help me put my mind in the right place and realize that I would beat this.
Continue to come here. Post whatever feelings that you have. We are here to support you. Don't be afraid to let others know how you feel and get their help and support right now. It is so important.
Hugs...Deb
