Pre-Admission Testing Done Today, Surgery this Friday.

Hi Kinberly: I am so glad to hear that the results from the MRI on your other breast came back ok. That is great news.

The waiting before surgery is horrible. Try and stay as busy as you can. Ask your surgeon for something to help you sleep the night before your surgery. I think that it really is harder on our family and friends than us because there is nothing that they can do. Regarding the drains, I know women that had no lymph node involvment that had drains after their surgery.

Look for all of those pink feathers floating in your preop room and during surgery. We will all be there for you.

Kimberly - Hi, waiting is the pits, I had to wait 5 weeks from dx to surgery (my surgeons mother died the week i was supposed to have surgery, pushing it out another week)... what agony! I am glad the biopsy came out ok for the other breast. In regards to the operation, you just have to have faith that you are putting yourself in the Drs very capable hands, and by the time you start counting backwards in the OR room it'll be over. Its weird, when you have surgery you have no feeling like time has passed (like when you are asleep)... it seems like it happens in 1 second, and -poof- you are in the recovery room. I did have lymph nodea taken out (49) and 5 were positive, and I woke up with 4 drains... it was yucky but you just get thru it. Good luck, and we'll all be praying for you... Hugs, Stefanie

Well the 6 needle injections they give you when they prep you for the operation was worse than the pain I felt waking up after the operation, though that was pretty bad too. I got home late yesterday and I feel weak when I move around too much, but I'm not on any pain meds right now, which I think is good

Okay the nurse and doctor said that I could shower and let the water run over the stitches and tape, a very nice lady came to see me yesterday just before I left the hospital and see said to bath around the area and drain tubes. Any suggestions? I want to wash my hair, my hubby said he would take me to a salon and have my hair washed and styled.

Plus these 2 drain tubes? right now I have them attached to a long cord that is around my neck which is working better than having them pinned to my shirt or pants. My next doctor appointment is this Thursday morning and my Oncology appointment is on the 12th of February.

Thanks again for your support, when they came to give me my shots to put me under, I felt that I wasn't alone any more and that I was going to be okay, THANK YOU.

Sounds as though you are doing very well. So glad to hear it. There are stores that sell t-shirt that have pockets you can put the drains in. I don't believe that they are very expensive. Please be careful that you don't pull the cord you have the drains attached to and pull the drains out. Heck of a mess if that happens.

When you are in the shower, it is a great time to do some arm exercises. Let the hot water loosen your muscles up. Take your arm (surgery side) and place it on the shower wall in front of you. Then slowly and carefully, walk your hand up the wall until you can feel some discomfort. Stop. Then do it again. This will help get the mobility back into your arm and shoulder.

Take your husband up on his offer and go get your hair done. PAMPER YOURSELF.

Rest and don't do too much.
