3 days after lumpectomy....

I found out that my tumor was cancer when I woke up from surgery, they did a frozen section. I waited 7 days for the path report to get the details of the tumor, but I got immediate info.

The delay in time means nothing as far as the results, and I am not sure the scar does either...that would just indicate the location, the position or something that may be unrelated. I think that it is just semantics, to call it a mass as opposed to a tumor or a fibroadenoma. I think a mass is just a mass, which can then be benign or malignant.

I'm not an expert though...you may try to call the doctor's office tomorrow and see if you can find out anything before the weekend...

The others have really covered your questions but I wanted to share a little, too. I think the time it takes can have to do with your location and how far the sample has to go to be biopsied. , also. Usually a frozen section is done right away as Lori said but if no one was there trained to read it.......? I guess it would be a moot point. about the scar. I had two benign lumps removed before I was diagnosed with cancer. Both times the scar and area filled in and you couldn't see where the lump had been removed. The larger of the two took a little longer filling in, but it did and by the time I had a mastectomy I couldn't remember which breast had which lump originally. So don't be concerned about the scar. Let us know about the report when it comes back. I hope you hear today. And by the way, you need to get a copy of that report to keep for future references whether it is benign or malignent, and put it in a place where you will know where to find it. I just want to say THANK YOU all for your support.  Before I had my surgery, I found another forum and the woman that responded to my post basically acted as though I was overreacting and that the mammogram results saying the mass was benign should have been enough.  I have a 7 yr old girl and an 8 yr old boy and I have worried about the fact that once a fibroid is found you are more likely to get breast cancer since my first lumpectomy 5 years ago, so needless to say when they found this one I was very nervous and I'm so glad to have found such wonderful supportive people to help me.  I read the posts late last night, so I didn't have a chance to call my Dr., but I have a follow up on Tuesday.  The scar doesn't bother me, looking at it now with the tape and how big the incision was does...ouch...ha ha...I am healing well though and thanks to you and the "club", my mind is at ease as well because now I know I wasn't overreacting.  P.S.  If I do ever join the club officially, I am glad to know there are such knowlegable and caring members. I don't think you are overreacting either, when I was first diagnosed I had surfed the web and found another site that was very negative and had me scared to death. I then foud this site and have never looked back. You will get lots of good advice here and the ladies truly care. We all hope that you will not have to join our "club". I did not get my results back for 3 or 4 days but I knew ahead of time that mine would be malignant. The radiologist was also in on my ultra sound and I asked her point blank what she thought and she said that she would be surprised if it came back negative. So I think there is still a good chance that it will be B9. The odds are in your favor too, 80% of lumps are B9. Try to relax and enjoy your weekend.

Thank you Bev...i wasn't sure how to post a reply to let you all know how the follow up with the surgeon went, so I posted a new topic..I am relieved, but now I'm not sure if I will ever trust just the mammo again.... I hope all is well with you and appreciate your help. Take care :) Linda

about this group.... Several of us began posting on another site in 1999. After a mess there with a troublemaker many of us moved to Healingwell. We have had group get togethers beginning in May of 2000, annually until about two years ago when we lost several of our group including one of the ladies who lived in the area where we last met within months of our get together. Actually we planned the visit because we knew she was needing us, we walked the last lap of the Race for the Cure with her.

You need to realize that in a group with breast cancer quite often some of the members who are around and post a lot are the most ill. Through meeting we have become close and it truly is like losing a family member when we say a final goodbye to a special sister. I don't want to seem morbid here, there are lots of us with many years of survival, too. I guess what I am trying to say is that we are a close group who have been together through good and bad for many years. We do have different personalities, and not everyone sees eye to eye with everyone else, but I hope you will never see any nastiness here. We do not tend to be negative, either. Everyone is here to help support each and everyone of us, regardless of whether the problem is our breast cancer or maybe another problem affecting our lives, like husbands or children who have problems.
