I walked almost 3 miles in today's Relay for Life at Cal State Long Beach (Calif).  A fellow BC survivor made a speech before the survivor's lap and she said a lot of what I experienced, so needless to say, I was in tears.  I approached her as we were getting ready for the first lap and said I was also a BC survivor and we hugged.  Her name is Kathy, too.  She was just diagnosed last year and she looks great!  I was also in tears for most of the survivior's lap as we were cheered on.  As you can tell, I get very emotional!  LOL  I was thinking about all of us here and those that have gone, as well as my BIL, who is fighting for his life. 

 

It was a great experience - better than the one I did last year.  That one was too small.  I got a few donations and hope to get more for this great cause.

Way to go Kathy!  Our relay is May 4-5th.  Last year I participated in the Relay for the first time in a few years.  The survivor's lap has been very difficult for me but last year was different.  First I was awarded the "Life Spirit Award" at the relay and then came the dreaded lap.  However, as I walked around the lake with my children now the 111 & 13 and my four year old granddaughter I remember my first lap when they were 2 and 4 -- It was such a blessing to laugh and talk. I then stayed up all night at the relay with the school kids I was teaching and had a blast but man did I feel old!!!  This year I have become the county committee online chairperson in charge of the online site for our county, formed my own team and am getting close to $600 in donations so far.

In June I celebrate my 10th year of survival -- no . . not disease free but am still living life to the fullest.

That is wonderful that you are so involved.  I used to walk and raise money for MS, because my BIL has it.  I raised over 1,000 the last year I did it and I was still going through chemo.  I could have raised a lot for RFL, but started late.  I just received 2 $100 checks today, though, so maybe I'll still get more.
